    Abstract: 1459357 Variable capacitors STANDEX INTERNATIONAL CORP 10 Feb 1975 [11 Feb 1974] 5597/75 Heading H1M In a trimmer capacitor wherein variation in capacitance is effected by relative movement of the fixed and movable plates in a direction perpendicular to their planes, a plastics base 24 for the assembly has a hole 38 therethrough, a part 36 of which is screw threaded and is an interference fit with actuating screw 22 to provide a desired resistance to rotation. The length and diameter of part 36 may be selected to give a desired torque rating. As shown fixed plate 50 is threaded for engagement with screw 22 and is separated from annular movable plate 58 by insulating, e.g. mica, washer 54. Plate 58 in the minimum capacitance position is bowed, becoming flattened (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) in the maximum capacitance position. A further plate 76 may be provided, electrically connected to fixed plate 50 by a solder tag (Fig. 9, not shown) and separated from plate 58 by insulating washer 72. Compression washer 84 abuts the under surface of the screw head, and may be metallic or insulating depending on the presence or absence of plate 76. Leads 26, 28 have portions 26A, 28A for soldering the trimmer to a printed circuit board and portions 26B, 28B of greater width to function as heat sinks during soldering and to minimize capillary creeping of the solder. The leads pass through holes in the base 24, the holes providing a tight fit at the bottom of the base but having cut-away wells towards the interior forming receptacles for any solder which does enter base 24.

    Abstract: A compression trimmer for providing a range of capacitance values for an electrical circuit includes a plurality of capacitive plates spaced by one or more dielectric members and mounted on a substantially compliant, high temperature, molded plastic insulating base. The compression trimmer includes an elongated screw received within and threadedly engaging an elongated torque control hole of the compliant base. The length and diameter of the torque control hole may be ajdusted to provide a desired torque rating of the screw. Additionally, the improved interference fit between the screw and the compliant base reduces or eliminates screw vibration to thereby maintain the capacitance value of the trimmer constant. A plurality of conductive terminals extending through the compliant base are provided for connecting the trimmer in an electrical circuit, for example, by the soldering of the conductive terminals to a printed circuit board. The trimmer includes various protective features that reduce the possibility of damage or destruction of the trimmer resulting from the receipt of solder flux or solder within the base of the trimmer. These productive features include the maintenance of very close tolerances between the compliant base and the conductive terminals. Additionally, a plurality of hollowed-out portions or wells are formed in the compliant base immediately adjacent the conductive terminals for receiving and providing a cooling space for the solder flux and the solder that does enter the base 24 to thereby prevent the solder flux and the solder from damaging the capacitive plate structure of the trimmer.

    Abstract: A bearing assembly having integral molded bearing surfaces. Each bearin g surface is molded within its respective inner and outer race. The use of plastic injection molded parts enables high precision with low cost to achieve a reliably rotating caster, wheel. The use of integral molded bearing surfaces within the respective rac es eliminates the problem of having to remove flash from the molding process or concern about indentations made by ejection pins if a separate bearing part were used. The bearing assembly can also be used with a molding process wheel to further reduce the cost of production.

    Abstract: A pump includes a coaxially integrated pump bypass/relief valve element of high density polymer material seats against a hard metallic sleeve that is pressed into a first counterbore around the bypass flow channel with an interference fit. That axial end of the sleeve bearing the valve seat face projects, for a substantial proportion of the sleeve length, beyond the first counterbore shoulder into a second counterbore space to provide an annular space around the outside diameter surface of the sleeve to free the seat face end of the sleeve from direct structural restraint.
