Abstract:
Novel compounds generally referred to herein as cationic oligomeric phenylene ethynylenes (OPEs), methods of synthesizing OPEs and various uses for the OPEs are described. The compounds can be synthesized in both symmetrical (S-OPE) and non- symmetrical (N-OPE) forms. Suitable uses include sensor and biocidal applications. Reusable structures incorporating the OPEs that are able to capture and release biological species of interest are also described.

The present invention includes a magnetically susceptible polymer component, a method of making the same, and apparatuses and systems for mixing, separating or localizing a magnetically susceptible polymer compound in a reaction. The magnetically susceptible polymer component includes a polymer and a magnetically susceptible particle of a predetermined size, which yields a component having a much-improved magnetic reactivity due to the increase in magnetic material by mass percentage. The apparatuses and systems of the present invention employ controllable magnetic fields distributable in perpendicular directions in order to precisely control the orientation, position and relative motion of any magnetically susceptible components within a reaction vessel.

A method, as shown in the figure, of preparing fluorescent in situ hybridization slides, comprising: providing a slide with a raised ring thereon; providing to the slide a DNA probe; providing to the slide cells and target DNA; providing to the slide a formamide-free mixture of 10 % +/- 2 % by weight dextran sulfate, and 15 %-25 % glycerol and 0.9 % by weight salt or a solution of 10 % +/- 2 % by weight dextran sulfate, 10-30 % by volume formamide and 0.9 % by weight salt; placing a coverglass on the ring; denaturing and hybridizing the slide; and performing a post-hybridization wash of the slide.

A Hardware-Embedded Delay Physical Unclonable Function (“HELP PUF”) leverages entropy by monitoring path stability and measuring path delays from core logic macros. Reliability and security enhancing techniques for the HELP PUF reduce bit flip errors during regeneration of the bitstring across environmental variations and improve cryptographic strength along with the corresponding difficulty of carrying out model building attacks. A voltage-based enrollment process screens unstable paths on normally synthesized (glitchy) functional units and reduces bit flip errors by carrying out enrollment at multiple supply voltages controlled using on-chip voltage regulators.
