    Abstract: A wireless time division duplex communication system using code division multiple access has a base station and user equipments. The system communicates using communication bursts (16). Each communication burst has a unique channelization code and a midamble code (20). Each midamble code is mapped to a set of at least one channelization code. For each communication burst to be transmitted in a time slot from the base station, the midamble code mapped to that burst's channelization code is determined. Communication bursts are generated and transmitted in the time slot. Each burst has the determined midamble code for its channelization code. The user equipment receives the bursts and determines each received midamble code. The user equipment determines the channelization codes of the transmitted communication bursts based on in part a result of the determining of each received midamble code.

    Abstract: Apparatus and method for correlating a received communication of a known sequence over a wireless channel. Processing at the required higher sampling rate is achieved through the use of a finite impulse response (FIR) filter (24) having a small number of taps for interpolating samples. This reduces hardware requirement by as much as one-half that of conventional techniques based on over-sampling the received signal, while obtaining amplitude degradation which is no worse than experienced when employing conventional techniques.

    Abstract: A method and wireless communication apparatus for receiving a plurality of communication signals transmitted in a wireless code division multiple access format. A channel response for each received communication signal is estimated. A system response matrix using codes and the channel responses of the received communication signals is constructed. The system response matrix is used in connection with matched filtering the received communication signals and to produce an objective matrix. The filtered communication signals are processed in a cancellation feedback loop to produce a set of symbols of the received communications including iterative processing with an interference cancellation matrix and processing with a feedback interference construction matrix. Preferably, the objective matrix is functionally related to the interference cancellation matrix and the feedback interference construction matrix.

    Abstract: A channel estimation method which reduces the strain on resources of a RAKE receiver using a complex weight gain (CWG) algorithm. In one embodiment, a n on- adaptive algorithm is used to average blocks of pilot symbols from several slots (320). In another embodiment, an adaptive algorithm implements sliding window averaging or a recursive filter. Using a CWG algorithm (325) reduces the memory and processor requirements of the RAKE receiver.
