    SOLUTION: The engine variable valve gear includes turnable camshafts 19, 20 to be turned at predetermined angles for valve opening operation of engine valves (9, 10) from a fully closed state to a fully opened state, telescopic cylinders 21, 22 each having a telescopic portion 33 at one end and a movement input portion 34 at the other end, and arranged perpendicularly to the turnable camshafts 19, 20, and cylinder moving means (23, 24) located near the movement input portions 34 of the telescopic cylinders 21, 22 for moving the telescopic cylinders 21, 22 in the axial directions, respectively. The telescopic portions 33 of the telescopic cylinders 21, 22 are crank-connected to the turnable camshafts 19, 20, respectively. By giving telescopic action to the telescopic cylinders 21, 22 at predetermined timings, the turnable camshafts 19, 20 are turned to open the engine valves 9, 10.
