PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high resolution and improvement of signal noise ratio without increasing an irradiation light quantity to an observation object such as a biological substance in a CARS microscopic optical device.SOLUTION: CARS light from an observation object 202, and reference light that is part of supercontinuum light and whose wavelength is ω=2ω-ωare made to interfere with each other, and signals are extracted from the interference light, to amplify the signals.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome the defect of low coherence interference measurement and the serviceability and scanning speed of the light source of optical coherent tomography.SOLUTION: The title device includes at least one first arrangement for providing not only at least one first electromagnetic radiation to a sample 328 but also at least one second electromagnetic radiation to a reference 316 and changed in the frequencies of the provided radiations with the elapse of time, at least one polarization modulator for modulating at least one polarization of the first and second electromagnetic radiations with respect to time, at least one second arrangement for detecting the first interference signal between at least one third radiation related to the first radiation in a first polarization state and at least one fourth radiation related to the second radiation and at least one third arrangement for detecting the second interference signal between the third and fourth radiations in a second polarization state. The first and second polarization states are different from each other.
