Abstract: Systems and techniques for communications wherein a data packet is transmitted over at least one time slot from a transmission site, a value is computed from an initial value and information, the initial value being a function of the number of time slots of the data packet transmission, the value and the information is transmitted from the transmission site, the transmitted value and the information is received at a receiving site, the value from the received information is recalculated, and the number of time slots of the data packet transmission is determined from the calculated and recalculated values. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract which will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. Abstract: In accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the invention, an apparatus, system, and method efficiently manage reverse link resources by allowing a mobile station to select between transmitting a payload a standard power level and transmitting a smaller payload at a boosted power level. The mobile station, therefore, can autonomously select a QoS (Quality of Service) level for physical layer packets. Based on reverse link transmission information received from a base station, the mobile station derives a reverse link transmission guideline defining the power levels and associated payloads for at least a standard service and boosted service. The mobile station selects a reverse link transmission power level from a plurality of power levels including at least a standard reverse link transmission power level associated with a standard payload size and a boosted reverse link transmission power level associated with a boosted payload size where the standard payload size is greater than the boosted payload size.

Abstract: In a wireless communication system (50) a method for combination transmission of packet data and low delay data. In one embodiment a parallel signaling channel provides a message to receivers (56, 58, 60) indicating a target recipient of packet data. The message also identifies the transmission channel used for packet data transmissions. Each receiver may then selectively decode only packets where the message identifies the receiver as a target recipient. The data packets stored in a buffer are ignored if the target recipient is another mobile unit. In one embodiment, the message is sent concurrently with the data packet on a parallel channel. In one embodiment, the message is punctured into the high rate packet data transmission.

Abstract: A method and apparatus provides for efficient data rate control and power control processes by transmitting a primary and a secondary pilot channel associated with a data channel in the reverse (uplink) link. The primary and secondary pilot channels are used for decoding the data. A ratio of power levels of the primary and secondary pilot channels is based on at least one of the data rate and payload size of the data channel. It is determined whether the transmission of the primary pilot channel and the secondary pilot channel associated with the data channel is necessary based on comparing one of the data rate and the payload size of the channel in the reverse link to a predetermined value. The power level of the primary pilot channel is maintained independent of at least one of data rate and payload size of the data channel. The power level of the secondary pilot channel may be adjusted based on at least one of data rate and payload size of the data channel.
