Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved capacitive fingerprint sensor and an improved sensing element (device) used for the sensor. SOLUTION: A fingerprint capacitor is demarcated to each pixel in the pixel array of a fingerprint sensor by the fingerprint-bearing skin of a finger of a user brought nearer to the upper exposed surface of the sensing plate of the pixel. First and second plates are buried in a dielectric material on the bottom side of the sensing plate and, in addition, demarcate the first and second capacitors of the sensing element together with the dielectric material. The capacitance of the fingerprint capacitor is coupled with an amplifier through the sensing element. During a sensing operation, the amplifier generates a pixel output signal which is the function of the variable capacitance of the fingerprint capacitor. The pixel output signal varies in accordance with the presence of crests or valleys in the fingerprint appearing immediately above the sensing plate when the finger of the user is in contact with the fingerprint sensor. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved protection coating for a fingerprint sensor. SOLUTION: The capacitive fingerprint sensor partitions a sensing surface, and has the polymer protection coating containing conductive particles suspended therein. The conductive particles act as parallel strings of series capacitors to couple the capacitance of the skin bearing the fingerprint of a user's finger applied to the sensing surface to capacitive sensing elements. A polymer material of the coating is durable and scratch-resistant. SOLUTION: A circular buffer storing packets for processing by one or more network processors employs an empty buffer address register identifying where a next received packet should be stored, a next packet address register identifying the next packet to be processed and a packet-processing address register in each network processor identifying the packet being processed by the network processor. N-bit address to the buffer are mapped or masked from/to m-bit packet-processing address registers by software, thereby enabling the buffer size to be fully scalable. A dedicated packet retrieval instruction supported by the network processor retrieves a new packet for processing by using the next packet address register and copies the packet into the related packet- processing address register in order to use the packet in subsequent accesses. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for transforming three dimensional (3D) color information into a color standard and a medium readable by a computer. SOLUTION: 3D cube defined by 8 RGB color points indicating 8 vertexes of 3D cube is stored. Each of these 8 points represents one of colors, namely, red, yellow, white, magenta, blue, black, green, and cyanogen. Furthermore, each of these 8 points represents a difference between the display capability and the color standard. The 3D cube is divided into 6 tetrahedrons, and a tetrahedron corresponding to input RGB pixel is selected. 3×3 matrix based on vertexes of the selected tetrahedron is calculated. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology by which sense amplifier operation in a nonvolatile memory device is performed further efficiently. SOLUTION: This sense amplifier circuit has a current source that is configurable to source any of at least two nonzero current levels in the sense amplifier circuit. The amplifier circuit is controlled by control circuitry in the nonvolatile memory device so that each sense amplifier circuit sources a first current level during the pre-charge cycle of a memory read operation, and a second current level being greater than the first current level during the memory cell sense operation. In this way, the sense amplifier circuit consumes less power during the memory read operation without an appreciable loss in performance.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for detecting minute surface damage or other irregularities on the surface of a capacitive sensor integrated circuit. SOLUTION: A preliminary image of capacitance readings for a sensor array is acquired, a sensor surface is coated with an electrolyte solution and then an additional image is acquired while the sensor surface is coated and/or after the electrolyte solution is removed. The electrolyte solution accelerates manifestation of pixel degradation and failure caused by the surface damage or irregularities. Defective regions are identified by change of gray scale pixels in the preliminary image while the electrolyte coating is on the sensing surface and then again after the electrolyte coating is removed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology to recover depth information relating to elements in a basic image corresponding to a plurality of reference image views. SOLUTION: An image processing system recovers the 3D depth information for the pixels of the basic image showing one view of a scene. The system detects the plurality of pixels in the basic image showing a first view of the scene. The system determines the 3D depth of the plurality of pixels in the basic image by matching thereto the correspondence to the plurality of pixels in a plurality of images showing a plurality of views of the scene. Next, the system forms a virtual divisional continuous depth surface as viewed from the basic image by tracing the pixels on the virtual divisional continuous depth surface by space propagation starting at a pixel detected in the basic image by using a plurality of matched and corresponding pixels of the plurality of images. The successfully traced pixels relate to the depth of the scene as viewed from the basic image.
