Abstract: A context monitoring device for supporting context monitoring and a context monitoring method are provided to stop operation of an unnecessary sensor when context monitoring necessary for context recognition application programs is performed, thereby efficiently conducting monitoring. A CMQ(Context Monitoring Query) processor(130) stores requested CMQs, receives sensor data from sensors to monitor whether the stored CMQs are satisfactory, and transmits an event according to the monitored results. An RSC(Reduced Source Cover) manager(140) controls activation of the sensors, so that data only of context factors belonging to an RSC set necessary for deciding whether the CMQs are satisfactory is generated among the received sensor data. A data processor(120) receives a sensor data(SDATA), extracts a characteristic value(FDATA) from the sensor data if necessary, and provides the CMQ processor with the sensor data or the characteristic value as an input value.
