Abstract: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating ischemic cerebrovascular diseases, which contains old platycodon extract is provided to prevent the damage of nerve cell in the area of hippocampus anatomy and inhibit nerve cell apoptosis. A composition for preventing and treating ischemic cerebrovascular diseases comprises 0.1-90 weight% of Platycodon grandiflorum extract as an active ingredient. The ischemic cerebrovascular diseases are stroke, cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, white matter dyslipidemia, brain hypoxia, alzheimer disease, parkinson's disease or Huntington disease. The Platycodon grandiflorum extract is obtained with water, C1-4 alcohol, ethylacetate, hexane or dichloromethane.
