    Abstract: Copolymers prepared by copolymerization of (a) a total of from 3.5 to 20% by weight of at least one polymerizable acid selected from (a1) ethylenically unsaturated C3-C10-monocarboxylic acid and (a2) ethylenically unsaturated C4-C10-dicarboxylic acid or their anhydrides, (b) from 4 to 10% by weight of at least one compound of the general formula I the sum of (a) and (b) being in the range from 7.5 to 24% by weight, (c) from 60 to 92.5% by weight of at least one compound of the general formula II (d) from 0 to 0.5% by weight of at least one compound of the general formula III (e) from 0 to 10% by weight of (meth)acrylonitrile, (f) from 0 to 10% by weight of at least one conjugated diolefin, (g) from 0 to 10% by weight of at least one vinylaromatic compound of the general formula IV the variables being defined as follows: R1 and R2 are identical or different and are selected from hydrogen and C1-C10-alkyl, R3 and R4 are identical or different and are selected from hydrogen, C1-C20-alkyl, phenyl, or R3 and R4 together are C2-C10-alkylene, substituted or unsubstituted, R5 is selected from C1-C20-alkyl and phenyl, R6, R7, R8, R9, R10 and R11 are identical or different and are selected from hydrogen and C1-C10-alkyl, x is an integer in the range from 0 to 12, y is selected from 0 and 1, x being chosen to be not equal to 0 when y is 1, k is an integer in the range from 0 to 3, it being possible for the copolymers to be completely or partly neutralized with alkali or ammonium and data in % by weight being based in each case on the total copolymer.

    Abstract: Surprisingly, it has been shown that the drawbacks of the previous state of the art, e.g. composition, purity and quality, and price variations of lanolin, can be avoided by substitution of crude, cleaned, and chemically modified wool fat and wool fat based mixtures by polyisobutene and polyisobutene derivatives as stuffing agents. A new stuffing agent for stuffing of skins and leather production including neutral and/or chemically modified native stuffing components (0-97 wt.%), one or more emulsifiers, and polyisobutene and/or polyisobutene derivatives of formula (I): R = a residue of formula (II), (III), or (IV); n = no value between 8 and 800; R = H or 2-8C alkyl, which can be substituted by one or two carboxyl or carboxylate groups, 1-6C alkoxycarbonyl with 1-6C in the alkoxy residue, alkylamino or dialkylamino-alkoxycarbonyl with a total of 1-6C in the alkylamino or dialkylamino groups, amidocarbonyl, cyan, phenyl, hydroxy, poly-lower alkoxy, lower acyloxy, or by the divalent group -O-CO-O- with which it forms a five-or six membered ring; R = R or with the exception of H, where the two R residues can be the same or different; R and R = H, OH, lower alkoxy, poly-lower alkoxy, or R or R = H and the other residue = sulfate (-OSO3H) or sulfone group (-SO3H), amino, alkylamino dialkylamino, with a total of 1-6C in the alkyamino or dialkylamino groups, or for groups of formula -O(CpH2p)COOH); p = 1-7, or their salts or 1-5C lower alkyl ester. The polymer has the formula (I), where R = a residue of formula (II) and R = H. Independent claims are included for: (1) a process for preparation of a polyisobutene stuffing composition by mixing at least one neutral and/or optionally a chemically modified, native stuffing component; and (2) a process for stuffing hides using polyisobutene directly as the stuffing material and/or a polyisobutene derivative in use singly or in combination with other stuffing materials, e.g. in the form of an aqueous emulsion.

    Abstract: Leather seasoning agent based on (meth)acrylic acid and acrylic acid/alkanol esters. A leather seasoning agent containing (wt.%): (a) dispersed copolymerisate A (20-60), (a1) at least one ester A1 of methacrylic acid with 1-8C alkanols (40-70), (a2) at least one ester A2 of acrylic acid with 1-8C alkanols (25-60), (a3) 3-6C alpha,beta-monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid A3 (0-3.5), and (a4) at least one further adjuvant monomer A4, e.g. hydroxypropyl acrylate, ureidomethacrylate, acrylamide, methacrylamide, N-methylol-acrylamide, N-methylol methacrylamide, where the sum of A1, A2, and optionally A3 and/or A4 = 100 wt.%; (b) at least 40 wt.% water (B); and (c) polyurethane leather seasoning agent C (0-40). Independent claims are included for: (1) a process for preparation of a leather seasoning agent by emulsion or stepwise polymerization of monomers A, A2, and optionally A3 and/or A4 to give an aqueous dispersion of copolymerisate A, and optionally mixing with polyurethane leather seasoning agent C; and (2) a leather with a seasoning agent or top coat of copolymerisate A from (a1) to (a4) as above.
