The monomer (B) is chosen from esters of ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acids and monoesters and diesters of ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids with an amine containing at least one hydroxyl group.

Abstract: Aqueous copolymerizate dispersions are obtained by copolymerization of a mixture of olefinically unsaturated monomer and at least one 4-8C unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride in aqueous emulsion to a copolymerizate having carboxylic acid anhydride groups, and reaction of these with at least one low molecular organic compound with an amino-, hydroxyl-, and/or mercapto group. Aqueous copolymerizate dispersions are obtained by copolymerization of a mixture of: (a) at least one olefinically unsaturated monomer which forms a homopolymerizate of glass transition temperature of less than 0 deg C; (b) at least one monomer which forms a homopolymerizate of glass transition temperature greater than 0 deg C; and (c) at least one 4-8C unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride in aqueous emulsion to a copolymerizate having carboxylic acid anhydride groups, and reaction of these with at least one low molecular organic compound with an amino-, hydroxyl-, and/or mercapto group. Independent claims are included for: (1) a copolymerizate obtained as above; (2) a copolymerizate dispersion obtained as above.
