Abstract: Partially neutralized carboxylate-rich copolymers, processes for their preparation and methods of using the same are disclosed, the copolymers comprising: monomers (A), (B), and (C); wherein monomer (A) comprises at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid, and is present in an amount of 30% to 79.99% by weight; wherein monomer (B) comprises at least one monoethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of acids corresponding to general formula I, acids corresponding to general formula II, anhydrides thereof, and other hydrolyzable derivatives thereof, and is present in an amount of 20.01% to 70% by weight: (HOOC)R1C-CR2(COOH) (I) R1R2C-C(-(CH2)n-COOH)(COOH) (II) wherein R1 and R2 each independently represent H or a straight-chain or branched, optionally substituted alkyl radical having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, or, in the case of (I), R1 and R2 together being an optionally substituted alkylene radical having 3 to 20 carbon atoms, and n represents an integer from 0 to 5; wherein monomer (C) comprises at least one additional ethylenically unsaturated comonomer, and is present in an amount of 0% to 40% by weight; wherein the carboxylate-rich copolymer is partially neutralized with at least one amine and the carboxylate-rich copolymer has a degree of neutralization of 2 to 18 mol %, based on the total amount of all COOH groups of the monocarboxylic and dicarboxylic acids; and wherein the carboxylate-rich copolymer has an average molecular weight Mw of at least 3000 g/mol.

Abstract: La invencion se refiere a un metodo para producir copolimeros ricos den carboxilato a partir de acidos monocarboxilicos o dicarboxilicos monoetilenicamente insaturados que tienen un peso molecular promedio Mw de por lo menos 3000 g/mol y a por lo menos 20.1% en peso del acido dicarboxilico mediante polimerizacion de radical en presencia de 2 hasta 19.9 equivalentes moleculares de una amina organica, en base a la cantidad total de todos los grupos COOH de los acidos monocarboxilicos y dicarboxilicos a una temperatura de no mas de 130 degree C. La invencion se refiere tambien a copolimeros ricos en carboxilato que tiene un bajo grado de neutralizacion y se obtienen a traves del metodo de la invencion, y al uso de los copolimeros para tratar superficies y como agentes de union para la union de fibra.

The invention also relates to the production of these copolymers an d to their use as an additive to washing, cleaning and clear rinsing agents.

Abstract: The invention relates to the use of an aqueous binding agent devoid of formaldehyde for substrates, having a large molecular weight distribution. Said binding agent contains (A) 0 - 100 wt. % of an ethylenically unsaturate d acid anhydride or an ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, whereby th e carboxylic acid groups thereof can form an anhydride group, or mixtures thereof, (B) 100 - 0 wt.- % of an ethylenically unsaturated compound, (C) at least one polyfunctional cross-linking agent or mixtures thereof. The polyme rs made from A) and B), obtained by radical polymerisation, classified in a coodination system according to the average molecular weight thereof Mw and the polydispersity value thereof, are arranged on a surface above a straight line which is defined by the straight equation y = 1.25x + 20000 and is displaced in direction y in a parallel manner by at least + 3000. The x axis characterises the average weight of the molecule and the y axis characterise s the polydispersity multiplied by 10000.
