    Abstract: The moulding composition contains, in each case based on A + B, from 80 to 55% by weight of a hard matrix A comprising a copolymer of at least 95% by weight of a vinyl aromatic monomer a11 having 8 to 10 carbon atoms and at least one comonomer a12 in a proportion of from 0.1 to 5% by weight, based on A, from 45 to 20% by weight of a soft phase B which is uniformly distributed in the hard matrix and has a mean particle diameter d50 (volume average) of from 3.5 to 9 mu m and is obtainable by polymerisation of the mixture of monomers a11 and a12 in the presence of an elastomer (rubber) with subsequent isolation of the target product, the comonomer a12 having the formula I in which X is an-OR , COOR or -CONHR radical and R is hydrogen or methyl and R and R are each an alkyl radical having 1 or 2 to 10 carbon atoms and carrying at least 1 OH group or an epoxide group or at least one other polar group.

    Abstract: An impact-resistant thermoplastic molding material which contains, based in each case on A+B, from 80 to 50% by weight of a hard matrix A of polystyrene having a molecular weight &upbar& M eta of from 150,000 to 200,000 and from 50 to 20% by weight of a soft phase B which is uniformly distributed in the hard matrix and has a median particle diameter d50 (volume average) of from 1 to 10 mu m, and can be obtained by polymerizing styrene in the presence of an elastomeric grafting base, advantageously has a molecular weight of the grafted branches of from 1.1 to 1.35 times the molecular weight of the hard matrix, and the degree of grafting is from 50 to 100%.

    Abstract: Thermoplastic molding materials which contain a copolymer which has been made impact-resistant with a rubber. The copolymer is produced by polymerizing a mixture of a monovinyl-aromatic compound and an acrylic acid derivative or methacrylic acid derivative in the presence of a rubber. The folding materials contain a specific proportion of soft component. The diameter of the particles of the soft component, and the swelling index of the soft component, lie within a specific range, and the tensile strength of the molding material is higher than the yield strength.

    Abstract: Laminate consists of at least two bonded layers, the first layer contg. at least 30% wt. of a styrene polymer (I) with a good thermal stability, and the second layer contg. a styrene polymer other than polymer (I). Specif. the styrene polymer (I) consists of a copolymer of 95-50% wt. styrene and 5-50% wt. maleic anhydride, fumaric anhydride or itaconic anhydride, of 90-20% wt. styrene and 10-80% wt, alpha-methylstyrene, of 90-50% wt. styrene and 10-90% wt. methyl methacrylate of 90-50% wt. alpha-methylstyrene and 10-50% wt. acrylonitrile, or a terpolymer of styrene/alpha-methylstyrene/acrylonitrile, or styrene/methyl methacrylate/alpha-methylstyrene, or styrene/acrylonitrile/maleic anhydride, or styrene/methyl methacrylate/maleic anhydride. The laminates have a combination of lhigh thermal stability, and high rigidity, resistance to impacts, resistance to scratching and/or resistance to solvents, which cannot be obtained with the individual styrene polymers.
