Abstract: Disclosed is a method for the hydroformylation of olefins comprising 2 to 8 carbon atoms, whereby (i) an inflow containing olefins and an added saturated hydrocarbon comprising 2 to 8 carbon atoms, as well as carbon monoxide and hydrogen, are fed into a reaction zone and reacted in the presence of a hydroformylation catalyst, (ii) a flow consisting essentially of unreacted olefins and saturated hydrocarbons is separated from the discharge from the reaction zone, (iii) said flow is separated into an olefin-enriched fraction and an olefin-depleted fraction by means of rectification, and (iv) the olefin-enriched fraction is at least partially redirected into the reaction zone.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for separating a crude alcohol by distillation, said crude alcohol containing essentially 82 to 98 wt. % of a C8 to C12 alcohol. The crude product is separated into a first product stream consisting of light-boiling components, an alcohol product stream and another product stream consisting of the higher-boiling components in a first distillation column. Said other product stream is then separated into a product stream consisting of the alcohol and a high boiler product stream in a second distillation column whose packing volume is a factor 50 to 200 smaller than that of the first distillation column.

The inventive method is characterised in that c) the recovery flow is brought into intimate contact with a wash liquid in order to eliminate the unreacted olefins contained therein, the wash liquid being a vented hydroformylation product, and the olefin-charged wash liquid and the raw hydroformylation product are redirected for regeneration. Said inventive method enables unreacted olefins to be reclaimed to a large extent from the recovery flow.

Abstract: In the hydroformylation of 2-8 carbon (C) olefins (I), (a) a hydrocarbon charge is subjected to thermal and/or catalytic cracking and/or dehydrogenation; (b) the cracked gas containing olefin or a fraction is separated into streams with higher and lower (I) contents; and (c) the (I)-enriched stream, carbon monoxide and hydrogen are reacted in the presence of hydroformylation catalyst. Unreacted (I) and saturated 2-8 C hydrocarbon are separated and recycled to (b). In the production of hydroformylation products from 2-8 carbon (C) olefins (I), (a) a hydrocarbon charge is fed into a cracking/dehydrogenation zone and subjected to thermal and/or catalytic cracking and/or dehydrogenation, giving a cracked gas containing olefin; (b) the cracked gas or a fraction is separated into streams with higher and lower (I) contents; (c) the (I)-enriched stream, carbon monoxide and hydrogen are fed into a hydroformylation zone and reacted in the presence of a hydroformylation catalyst; and (d) a stream of unreacted (I) and saturated 2-8 C hydrocarbon is separated from the product stream and recycled to stage (b).

Abstract: In a process for the fractional distillation of a liquid crude aldehyde mixture including straight-chain and branched aldehydes, the product mixture is fractionated in a first distillation column to give a product stream of branched aldehyde, a product stream of straight-chain aldehyde and a further product stream including straight-chain aldehyde and the high boiling constituents. The further product stream is then fractionated in a second distillation column whose packing volume is a factor of from 50 to 200 smaller than that of the first distillation column to give a product stream of straight-chain aldehyde and a high boiler product stream.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for processing a liquid discharge of a continuous hydroformylation that substantially contains aldehydes, high-boiling by-products, a homogeneously dissolved hydroformylation catalyst, non-reacted olefins, low-boiling by-products and dissolved synthesis gases. According to the inventive method a) the liquid hydroformylation discharge is expanded in a first expansion step to a pressure that is 2 to 20 bar below the reactor pressure, while the discharge is separated into a liquid phase and a gaseous phase; and b) expanding the liquid phase obtained in the first expansion step in a second expansion step to a pressure that is lower than the pressure of the first expansion step, while the liquid phase is separated into a liquid phase that substantially contains the high-boiling by-products of the hydroformylation, the homogeneously dissolved hydroformylation catalyst and small quantities of hydroformylation product and non-reacted olefins, and into a gaseous phase that substantially contains the main quantity of the hydroformylation product, non-reacted olefins and low-boiling by-products.
