    Abstract: The invention concerns a process for preparing 6-aminocapronitrile or 6-aminocapronitrile-hexamethylene diamine mixtures by: a) reacting 5-formylvaleronitrile with ammonia and hydrogen in the presence of hydrogenation catalysts selected from the group comprising metals or metal compounds of rhenium, copper and elements of the eight subgroups, a hydrogenation discharge product being obtained; and b) extracting from the hydrogenation discharge product 6-aminocapronitrile and optionally hexamethylene diamine, provided that the hydrogenation catalyst does not contain copper, nickel or copper and nickel as its only components.

    Abstract: Prodn. of aldehydes (I) involves: (a) hydroformylation of olefins (II) with more than 7C, using a homogeneous soln. of a Rh catalyst (III) in the reaction medium; (b) sepn. of (III) from the reaction mixt. (IV); and (c) recirculation of (III) to stage (a). (III) is extracted from (IV) with an aq. soln. of an N-contg. chelating agent (V), consisting of sulphonated pyridines, sulphonated quinolines, opt. substd., sulphonated or sulphonated-substd. 2,2'-bipyridines, 1,10-phenanthro-lines, 2,2'-biquinolines, 2,2',6',2"-terpyridines and porphines and the aq. extract is recycled to stage (a). USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is esp. suitable for hydroformylation of 7-20C linear or branched alpha-olefins and/or olefins with internal double bonds, e.g. oct-1-ene, dodec-1-ene or propylene trimer and tetramer (giving (I) useful as precursors for plasticiser alcohols) and polymeric olefins, e.g. low mol. polyisobutene (which can be converted by reductive amination into polyisobuteneamine, used as fuel additive). (I) can be produced from long-chain and/or branched (II) using 'naked' Rh as (III), i.e. Rh cpds. free from ligands contg. P, which are thermolabile. Sepg. (III) prevents the deposition of metallic Rh during distn. of (IV), whilst the chelates with (V) decompose in the presence of the CO-H2 gas mixt., giving (III) with the required catalytic properties.

    Abstract: A process is proposed for producing aldehydes and alcohols by hydroformylation of olefins with more than three carbon atoms. The process involves a hydroformylation stage, in which the olefin is hydroformylated at a pressure of 50-1000 bar and a temperature of 50-180 DEG C with the aid of a rhodium catalyst dissolved in an homogeneous reaction medium, and a catalyst recovery stage, in which the rhodium catalyst is extracted. The process involves the following steps: (a) hydroformylation carried out in the presence of a rhodium complex containing a ligand in the form of a phosphorous-free multidentate organic nitrogen compound capable of forming complexes with group VIII metals, said nitrogen compound containing in addition at least one tertiary nitrogen rest which can be protonated with a weak acid; (b) extraction of the product from the hydroformylation stage, where appropriate after separation or partial separation of the aldehydes and alcohols, using an aqueous solution of a distillable acid; (c) heat treatment of the aqueous acid extract in the presence of an organic solvent or solvent mixture which is inert under the hydroformylation conditions, the aqueous acid being distilled off, in order to de-protonate the complex and convert it to the organic phase; and (d) recycling of the organic phase containing the catalyst complex into the hydroformylation stage.
