Abstract: Cobalt catalysts (I) are claimed, in which the active material contains 55-98 wt% Co, 0.2-15 wt% P, 0.2-15 wt% Mn and 0.05-5 wt% alkali metal, calcd. as oxide. The calcined catalyst is reduced in a stream of hydrogen at final temps. of 200-400[deg]C and then surface-oxidised in a stream of air at final temps. of 20-60[deg]C. Also claimed is a process for the hydrogenation of organic nitriles and/or imines at 60-150[deg]C and 50-300 bar using (I) as catalyst.

Abstract: Cobalt catalysts whose catalitically active composition consists of from 55 to 98% by wt. of cobalt, from 0.2 to 15% by wt. of phosphorus, from 0.2 to 15% by wt. of manganese and from 0.2 to 15% by wt. of alkali, calculated as oxide, by calcining the catalyst composition in a first step at final temperatures of from 550 to 750 DEG C and in a second step at final temperatures of from 800 to 1000 DEG C and also a process for hydrogenating organic nitriles and/or imines by use of the new cobalt catalysts.

Abstract: Prodn. of arylamines of formula (I) comprises (a) preparing a cycloalkylamine of formula (II) by the hydrogenative amination of a phenol (III) with NH3/H2 at 100-250 deg.C under 0.01-50 bar pressure in the presence of catalyst (A); and (b) dehydrogenation of (II) at 150-300 deg.C under 0.01-50 bar pressure in the presence of a catalyst (A). (A) comprises: 30-100 wt.% of a Pd component (A1) and 0-70 wt.% alkali- and/or alkaline earth oxide. (A1) comprises Pd (opt. mixed with Pt) on oxides of rare earth and/or Group IVb; or Pt/Pd mixts. on Al2O3. R1-R5 = H, 1-12C alkyl or 3-12C cycloalkyl. Step (b) is independently claimed.

Abstract: A method for the selective hydrogenation of butadiene to butenes in the liquid or trickle phase on firmly arranged noble metal supported catalysts, in which a C4 stream rich in butadiene having a butadiene content of 20 to 80 % by weight, relative to the C4 stream, is hydrogenated in two reaction zones connected in series such that the hydrogenation product of the first reaction zone contains 0.1 to 20 % by weight and the hydrogenation product of the second reaction zone contains 0.005 to 1 % by weight of residual butadiene relative to the C4 stream, with the proviso that the butadiene content of the hydrogenation product from the second reaction zone is reduced by at least the factor 5 compared to the butadiene content of the hydrogenation product from the first reaction zone.

Abstract: Catalyst suitable for hydrogenation of organic cpds., comprises (all based on total wt. of catalyst); (a) 80 wt.% nickel (calculated as nickel oxide); (b) 10-25 wt.% of silicon (calculated as zirconium oxide; and (d) 0-10 wt.% of aluminium (calculated as aluminium oxide). The amt. of silicon dioxide and aluminium oxide is at least 15 wt.%. The catalyst is prepd. by; (2) adding an acidic aq. soln. of nickel-, zirconium- and opt. aluminium salts to a basic aq. soln. or suspension of silicon cpds. (and opt. aluminium cpds.), so that the pH of the resulting mixt. drops to at least 6.5; (2) adding a further basic soln. to bring the pH to 7-8; and (3) isolating the pptd. solid, which is then dried, formed and calcined.
