    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a carried catalyst used for converting a carboxylic acid or its ester into an aldehyde by a selective hydrogenation reaction, having reasonable stability, capable of being regenerated, hardly or quite not forming a by-product, having at least comparable selectivity with the corresponding non-carried catalyst. SOLUTION: This method for producing an aldehyde of formula I (R is an aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic or aromatic aliphatic group which may be substituted, if necessary, with one or more substituents and/or if necessary, may have more heterogeneous atom) comprises selectively hydrogenating an acid of the formula: R-COOH or an ester of the acid with a 1-10C alcohol with hydrogen in the presence of a metal oxide catalyst in a gaseous phase. Therein, the hydrogenation is carried out in the presence of the carried catalyst containing a metal oxide suitable for the selective hydrogenation of the carboxylic acid or the carboxylate ester as an essential catalyst on SiC (silicon carbide) as a carrier at a temperature of 150-450 deg.C under a pressure of 0.1-150 bars.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially efficiently and continuously producing an aldehyde by hydrogenating an ester, while recycling the unused hydrogen and the unreacted ester, wherein the selectivity of the aldehyde is maintained at a satisfactory level. SOLUTION: This method for producing an aldehyde of the formula: R-CHO comprises hydrogenating an ester of the formula: R-COOR' (R is a non- substituted or substituted aliphatic group, alicyclic group, aromatic group or aralkyl group; R' is a group derived from a 1-10C alcohol] with excessive hydrogen in an amount of 2-200 moles per mole of the ester in the presence of a heterogeneous hydrogenation catalyst at 200-450 deg.C in a gas phase, while recycling the unreacted hydrogen and the unreacted ester. Therein, the alcohol is removed from the recycling flow in such an extent as the initial concentration of the produced alcohol: R'-OH in the reaction mixture is maximally 1 mole per mole of the carboxylic acid ester II.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain zirconium dioxide having high monoclinic system ratio end large BET surface area. SOLUTION: This zirconium dioxide is composed of at least 80 wt.% of monoclinic system and has a BET surface area of at least 100 m /g. The production method consists of a process for forming precipitates by mixing a zirconium salt aqueous solution with ammonia, and the drying and calcination of the resultant precipitates. In this process, the precipitates formed in the aqueous solution is aged at 0-300 deg.C and calcined at 200-600 deg.C, before drying. This product can be used as a formed product, a catalyst or a catalyst support.

SOLUTION: An N-hydroxyalkyl substituted aminoalkyne expressed by formula II is manufactured by reacting a mixture of a compound expressed by the formula R -C≡C-H(R is H, an alkyl, etc.) and a compound expressed by formula I (R , R are each H, an alkyl, etc.; A is a 2-5 alkylene) in the presence of a catalyst containing a metal compound of a first subgroup elements under a heterogeneous catalytic system. A suitable catalyst contains a complex of copper acetylide and Bi compound, for example, (BiO)2 CO3 , etc., the preferable catalyst contains about 40-70wt.% of Cu and about 0.1-10% of Bi. The reaction is carried out in a reactor such as a tubular reactor, etc., provided with a stirrer, generally at 0-200 deg.C, preferably at 20-120 deg.C, especially preferably at 40-120 deg.C.

    Abstract: Preparation of amines from alcohols, nitrogen compounds and hydrogen is effected over a catalyst containing oxygenated compounds of zirconium, copper, nickel and optionally aluminium and/or manganese. Preparation of amines involves reacting primary or secondary alcohols, nitrogen compounds selected from ammonia and primary or secondary amines, with hydrogen at 80-250 degrees C and 0.1-40 MPa over a catalyst at least containing zirconium, copper and nickel. Specifically, the catalytically active mass contains metal oxides of Zr (20-85 wt. %, as ZrO2), Cu (1-30 wt.%, as CuO), Ni (14-70 wt.%, as NiO) and optionally aluminium and/or magnesium (0-10 wt.%, as Al2O3 and/or MnO2). The molar ratio of Ni / Cu is ≥ 1, and the catalyst is free of cobalt or molybdenum oxides. An Independent claim is also included for a catalyst formed.

    Abstract: Catalysts (I) are claimed containing, on a porous metal oxide support, more than 6-50 wt% cobalt, nickel or a mixture thereof, 0.001-25 wt% ruthenium, 0-10 wt% copper and 0-5 wt% promoter(s) selected from iron, rhodium, palladium, platinum, iridium, osmium, silver, gold, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, rhenium zinc, cadmium, lead, manganese, tin, lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, caesium, phosphorus, arsenic, antimony, bismuth, tellurium and thallium. (I) are obtained by (a) impregnating the support with the metals and promoters or their compounds but using only halogen-free compounds, (b) drying and calcining, and (c) reducing the calcined catalyst in a stream of hydrogen. Also claimed is (i) the process as described above for the production of (I), and (ii) a process for the production of amination products by reacting alkylene oxides, alcohols, aldehydes or ketones with ammonia or prim. or sec. amines in presence of free hydrogen and catalyst (I).
