    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas-phase catalytic hydrogenation process whereby gas-phase catalytic hydrogenation can be carried out in a high yield without gasifying a feed material in advance by introducing a feed material contg. a specified amt. of 6-20C α-olefins as a liq. into a gas at least contg. hydrogen. SOLUTION: This gas-phase hydrogenation process is carried out on a catalyst contg. at least one element of the subgroup VIII in a molar ratio of gas/feed material of 5-200 at a gas temp. of 50-300 deg.C under a gas pressure of 1-20 bar and at a space velocity of 0.25-3 kg/hr per l of the catalyst. The feed material contains at least 50 wt.% 6-20C α-olefins and pref. contains a branched 8C α-olefin and a branched β-olefin, each having at least one double bond, in a wt. ratio of (60/40)-(80/20). The catalyst comprises Ni, Si, Al, and Zr. The material is fed by spraying with a nozzle. The average size of droplets introduced into a circulating gas through the nozzle is pref. 1-100 μm.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To hydrogenate an arom. hydrocarbon at a high efficiency at medium temp., pressure, and catalyst space velocity without substantial detriment to the octane number by hydrogenating a feed stream contg. the arom. hydrocarbon with an Ni-contg. precipitation-method catalyst at specified temp., pressure, and catalyst space velocity in the presence of free H2 . SOLUTION: A feed stream, pref. a reformate stream, contg. an arom. hydrocarbon (e.g. benzene) pref. in a concn. of 2-30 wt.% is hydrogenated with an Ni-contg. precipitation-method catalyst at a temp. of 30-300 deg.C, pref. 70-200 deg.C, under a pressure of 20-80 bar, pref. 25-40 bar, and at a catalyst space velocity of 1-6 kg/(l×h), pref. 2-4 kg/(l×h), in the presence of free H2 . Pref., the catalyst comprises, in terms of oxides, 65-80 wt.% Ni, 10-25 wt.% Si, 2-10 wt.% Zr, 0-10 wt.% Al, and at least 15 wt.% (Si+Al).
