    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain 4-amino-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine from 2,2,6,6- tetramethyl-4-piperidinone by an industrially excellent method in terms of cost by using a specific catalyst. SOLUTION: This 4-amino-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine of formula I is obtained by reacting 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidinone of formula II with ammonia in the presence of an acidic metal oxide catalyst or a solid acidic catalyst insoluble in a reaction mixture (except an ammonium-type inorganic and organic ion-exchanging substance) to obtain an imine substance of formula III, and subjecting to hydrogen addition in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst. Preferably, aluminum oxide, silicon dioxide, bentonite, aluminum hydrosilicate of montmorillonite-type, aluminum silicate of erionite-type, etc., is used as the catalyst for obtaining the imine substance by the reaction.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain azo(oxy)benzene useful as an intermediate for chemical industry, etc., in high efficiency by the reduction coupling of nitrobenzene in vapor phase at a high temperature using heterogeneous catalytic action of a specific redox catalyst having reduced or partially reduced form. SOLUTION: Azobenzene and azoxybenzene are produced by the reduction coupling of nitrobenzene in vapor phase at a high temperature using heterogeneous catalytic action of a specific redox catalyst having reduced or partially reduced form. The reducing catalyst contains one or more active metals such as Bi, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Pb, Mo, Ce, U, Sn, Sb, Cu, La, W, Nb, Pd, Pt, Ni and In. Nitrobenzene is passed on the redox catalyst together with one or more kinds of gaseous reducing agents free from hydrogen for the deoxidization of nitrobenzene. The average oxidized state of the active metal of the redox catalyst is lower than the maximum oxidized state stable under each reaction condition by >=0.5 before introducing nitrobenzene together with the reducing agent.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an amine at a high conversion without yielding by-products, and to obtain a catalyst for producing the amine. SOLUTION: This method comprises production of an amine by the reaction of a primary or secondary alcohol with a nitrogen compound selected from ammonia and primary and secondary amines at 80-250 deg.C, 0.1-40 MPa in the presence of a catalyst consisting of zirconium, copper, and nickel. The catalytically active ingredient contains 20-85 wt.% of an oxygen-containing zirconium compound (as calculated as ZrO2 ), 1-30 wt.% of an oxygen-containing copper compound (as calculated as CuO), 4-70 wt.% of an oxygen-containing nickel compound (as calculated as NiO), and 0-10 wt.% of an oxygen-containing aluminum and/or manganese compound(s) (as calculated as Al2 O3 and/or MnO2 ), but no oxygen-containing cobalt or molybdenum compound.

The distillation is preferably carried out at 20-200 deg.C under a pressure of 1-1,000 mbar.

    Abstract: 3-Aminomethyl-3,5,5-trimethyl-cyclohexylamine (IPDA) with a cis:trans isomer ratio of at least 70/30 is obtained by catalytic imination of 3-cyano-3,5,5-trimethyl-cyclohexanone (IPN) followed by catalytic hydrogenation of the resulting imine in presence of an acid. A process for the production of IPDA with a cis:trans isomer ratio of at least 70/30 comprises: (a) imination of IPN with ammonia in presence of an imination catalyst at 20-150 degrees C and 1.5-30 Mpa, and (b) hydrogenation of the resulting imine at 80-160 degrees C and 5-30 Mpa in presence of ammonia on catalysts containing copper and/or a Group VIII metal and also in presence of an acid in amounts corresponding to an acid number of 0.1-2 based on the IPN used.

    Abstract: Aliphatic alpha ,w-dinitriles with a phosphorus content of 1.0 ppm or more by weight (ppm wt.) are used for the production of alpha ,w-aminonitriles by partial hydrogenation in presence of a special iron-based catalyst containing a promoter based on aluminium, silicon, zirconium, titanium and/or vanadium. A process for the production of aliphatic alpha ,w-aminonitriles comprises the partial hydrogenation of corresponding dinitriles with a phosphorus content of 1.0 ppm wt. or more in presence of a catalyst containing (a) iron and/or an iron compound, (b) 0.01-5 wt% (based on a) of a promoter based on 2, 3, 4 or 5 elements selected from Al, Si, Zr, Ti and V, and (c) 0-0.5 wt% of an alkali or alkaline earth metal compound. An Independent claim is also included for catalysts with the above composition obtained by the reduction and optional passivation of magnetite, showing a BET surface of 3-10 m /g, a total pore volume of 0.05-0.2 ml/g and an average pore diameter of 0.03-0.1 micron, with 50-70% (by volume) of the pores in the range from 0.01 to 0.1 microns.
