Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of radiation-crosslinkable contact adhesive mixtures comprising polymers having a glass transition temperature of below 0 DEG C and a K value of from 20 to 80, derivatives of dihydroxypropyl (meth)acrylates as reactive thinners and small amounts of polymerisable tertiary amino compounds, in which the mixture is heated at temperatures of from 80 to 120 DEG C for up to 2 hours, and the solvent is then removed, if necessary at reduced pressure.

Abstract: Aqueous synthetic resin formulations essentially contain A) from 3 to 75% by weight of one or more synthetic resins which are composed of a) from 50 to 99.9% by weight of one or more unsaturated carboxylic or vinyl esters, b) from 0.1 to 12% by weight of one or more alpha , beta -monoethylenically unsaturated monobasic or dibasic acids or their ahydrides, c) from 0 to 10% by weight of one or more monoethylenically unsaturated acetophenone or benzophenone derivatives, d) from 0 to 35% by weight of one or more other copolymerizable monoethylenically unsaturated monomers, in polymerized form, B) one or more metal cations having a charge of from 2 to 4, in water-soluble form, C) from 0 to 10% by weight, based on the synthetic resin A, or benezophenones or acetophenones which are not monoethylenically unsaturated, D) effective amounts of emulsifiers or protective colloids or a mixture of these active ingredients, E) not less than 5% by weight of water and F) from 0 to 85% by weight of finely divided fillers, and the total amount of the cations B is such that it is capable of neutralizing from 0.2 to 6 times the amount, corresponding to the amount of acid functions incorporated in the form of the monomers b in the synthetic resin A, of their conjugated bases. These synthetic resin formulations are suitable for coating, adhesive bonding, sealing or impregnating.

Abstract: The new synthetic resins (I) consist of (a) 30-99.85 wt.% (1-18C alkyl)-(meth)acrylate(s), (b) 0.05-8 wt.% mono-unsatd. acetophenone or benzophenone deriv(s). contg. no Ph gp. with a free OH gp. ortho to the CO gp., (c) 0.1-10 wt.% 3-12C mono-unsatd., mono- or di-basic acid(s) and/or anhydride(s), (d) 0-50 wt.% vinyl 2-18C aliphatic monocarboxylate(s) and (e) 0-20 wt.% other mono-unsatd. comonomer(s) in polymerised form; at least 1 mol % of the acid and/or anhydride gps. incorporated with (c) is neutralised. (I) are produced by radical polymerisation of the above comonomer mixt. in organic soln., followed by partial or complete neutralisation of the acid/anhydride gps. and sepn. of the solvent and any other volatile components; or monomer (c) is partly or fully neutralised before copolymerisation with the other comonomers. (I) pref. contain 40-90 wt.% monomer (a), 0.1-5 wt.% (b) and 0.5-4 wt.% (c); (b) has the formula Ph-CO-Phe-OCO-(CH2)4-OCOCR3 =CH2 (II), Cl-Phe-CO-Phe-OCO-(CH2)2-OCOCR3=CH2 and/or Ph-CO-Phe-OCOO-Phe-NH-COCR3=CH2 (with R3 = H or Me); amts. of (a)-(e) are such that a copolymer of (a), (c), (d) and (e) only has T9 -50 to 0 deg.C; 40-60 mol % of the acid/anhydride gps. introduced with (c) are neutralised; the fully acid form of (I) has K-value 10-60 in THF at 25 deg.C; alkali metal hydroxide is used for neutralisation. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are useful as the basis for contact adhesives (claimed); also claimed is a self-adhesive article comprising a substrate material and a contact adhesive based on (I), and a process for the prodn. of such articles by coating the subtrate with (I) from soln. or melt and then irradiating with UV. Abstract: The novel copolymers having K values of from 5 to 80 are prepared by free-radical polymerisation of A) 20 to 80% by weight, based on the total weight of (A) and (B), of at least one olefinically unsaturated polyoxyalkylene alcohol or polyester alcohol adduct, (B) 80 to 20% by weight, based on the total weight of (A) and (B), of at least one vinyl monomer from the group comprising N-vinylformamide, -2-pyrrolidone, -2-piperidone, -2-caprolactam, -imidazole, -2-ethyleneurea and -2-propyleneurea, C) 0 to 40 parts by weight of glycidyl acrylate and/or glycidyl methacrylate, D) 0 to 10 parts by weight of at least one alpha , beta -monoolefinically unsaturated acid and E) 0 to 30 parts by weight of at least one olefinically unsaturated carboxamide and/or carboxylate and/or styrene, the parts by weight of (C), (D) and (E) in each case being based on 100 parts by weight of the monomers (A) and (B). The copolymers are used as assistants and/or additives, for example as dispersion and/or emulsification assistants, or as additives for improving the mechanical properties, in formulations for the preparation of polyisocyanate polyaddition products.
