    Abstract: A description is given of a process for preparing methyl formate by reacting excess methanol with carbon monoxide under superatmospheric pressure and at elevated temperature in the presence of alkali metal methoxide or alkaline earth metal methoxide as catalyst in a pressure-rated reactor, in which the use of at least two reactor elements, preferably operated in countercurrent, at about 100° C. and a pressure of about 100 bar in combination with a solids-free desalting of the reaction product makes possible very economical, largely trouble-free production of methyl formate in any desired quality and with a very good production capacity. Furthermore, the process for solids-free desalting and apparatuses for carrying out this process are described.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing essentially unbranched octenes and dodecenes by oligomerising flows of hydrocarbons containing butene-1 and/or butene-2 and butane, said hydrocarbon flows being essentially free of isobutene, at temperatures of 30 to 280 DEG C and at a pressure of 10 to 300 bar over a heterogenous catalyst containing nickel. According to the invention, sufficient quantities of the butane which has separated from the reaction mixture and sufficient quantities of non-reacted butene are reintroduced into the oligomerisation reaction to ensure that the maximum quantity of oligomers contained in the reacted reaction mixture does not exceed 25 wt. % in any part of the reactor or if a reactor cascade is used, in any part of the cascade.

    Abstract: A hydrogenation catalyst based on an alloy of aluminum and of a transition metal is prepared by preparing a kneaded material from the alloy and an assistant, converting the kneaded material into moldings, calcining the moldings and treating the calcined moldings with an alkali metal hydroxide, by a process in which the assistant used is (a) polyvinyl alcohol and water or (b) stearic acid, and the catalyst prepared according to the invention is used for hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis, in particular the partial hydrogenation of aliphatic alpha,omega-dinitriles to aliphatic alpha,omega-aminonitriles.
