Abstract: The ophthalmic lens according to the invention comprises a substrate made of organic glass, having front and rear main faces, at least one primer layer deposited on at least one of the main faces of the substrate, the said primer layer comprising an aggregate of at least two-phase particles, a first phase of which consists of a polymer P1 with a soft character having a glass transition temperature (Tg) of less than 20° C. and a second phase of which consists of a polymer P2 with a hard character having a glass transition temperature (Tg) of greater than 50° C., and at least one layer of an abrasion-resistant coating composition deposited on the primer layer. Application to lenses for spectacles.

Abstract: A mould for prodn. of optical lenses partic. for spectacles consists of two mould shells (10A, 10B) around which is established an annual sealing sleeve (14) defining together the required mould cavity (15). The sealing sleeve (14) is made of synthetic heat shrinkable material which by heat application is constructed over the two mould shells. Initially the sealing sleeve extends over and beyond the two shells so that where shrunk in position it is driven annularly between the shells (21) in the form of an inverted `U' so locating them axially. Also claimed are lenses formed from such a mould.

Abstract: The process according to the invention is of the kind according to which an additive substance (11) is diffused in a controlled manner within a base substance (10) which, made up of at least one partially polymerised monomer capable of resulting in a homopolymer of refractive index N1, is in the state of a gel, the additive substance itself being made up of at least one monomer capable of producing a homopolymer of refractive index N2 which differs from N1. According to the invention the additive substance (11) chosen is a mixture of at least two monomers (A, B) and the composition of this mixture is varied with time. Application to the production of components made of synthetic substance of optical quality suited especially to the production of ophthalmic lenses.

Abstract: The mouldable silicone elastomer is obtained by crosslinking an epoxidised (epoxide-containing) silicone composition comprising: - an organopolysiloxane constituent A comprising at least one fluid diorganopolysiloxane A1 carrying at least two Si-vinyl groups per molecule and at least one functional organic epoxy radical, the said diorganopolysiloxane A1 being devoid of chain-terminal SiH groups, and - an organohydrogenopolysiloxane constituent B comprising at least one fluid organohydrogenopolysiloxane B1 having at least three SiH groups per molecule and a single hydrogen atom bonded to one and the same silicon atom. The elastomer obtained is rendered mouldable by grafting saccharide compounds onto the epoxy groups of the elastomer. The invention is particularly applied to the manufacture of contact lenses.
