Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a modular personal computer, a connector for this modular personal computer, a cooling method of the modular personal computer, and a personal computer system. SOLUTION: This modular personal computer 12 has a cooling air flow inlet side opening 58 and an outlet side opening 60 separately arranged by sandwiching a central processing unit 64 in a side part 12a of a casing arranged toward a desktop connector 14, an air passage 56 and an air passage 68 superposed and extended between the inlet side opening 58 and the outlet side opening 60, and reduces static pressure in the vicinity of the outlet side opening 60 by a diffuser 26. Inside air of the modular personal computer 12 is sucked via the outlet side opening 60, and a cooling air flow is introduced from the inlet side opening 58 by putting the inside of the modular personal computer 12 under negative pressure. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the computer system which enables an adapter, etc., to be mounted and dismounted even in a system operation state and can automatically reconstituting system constitution according to the mounting and dismounting of the adapter etc. SOLUTION: When the adapter 2 is mounted, an adapter detecting mechanism 11 informs a resource manager of the mounting of the adapter 2 by interruption etc. The resource manager connects the adapter 2 to the system mechanically and electrically right after the adapter 2 is mounted and reads attribute information on the adapter 2 out of the memory in the adapter 2 to make a necessary setup and the installation of a device driver and the allocation of a memory, etc., needed on the system side so that an application program can use the adapter 2. When the user wants to dismount the adapter, the user sends an adapter removal request to the resource manager with an adapter removal button 12 or by a program.

Abstract: To enable the expansion, by way of a channel different from the bus signal lines, of the bus, of a computer system in which each local arbiter is supposed to output its own priority as the right to use the bus on a common arbitration bus through open-collector-type drivers to determine a winner in arbitration. Certain representation features (73, 79) having the functions of a local arbiter that represent the arbitration level of the other bus are provided in both a primary system and a secondary system linked via a channel in a signal transmission mode different from the signal transmission mode of the bus. Arbitration is first conducted on each of the buses of the primary and secondary system to determine winners in arbitration. Notification of the arbitration level of each winner is made through a channel to the representation feature on the other bus. After this notification, arbitration is conducted once again between a winner in arbitration on each bus and the representation feature representing the arbitration level of the other bus to determine a final winner.
