    Abstract: The disclosed technology provides a lubricating composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and 0.01 wt % to 10 wt % of an oxyalkylated aromatic polyol compound, wherein the aromatic compound has at least one alkoxy group represented by -OR1 group, R1 is hydroxyalkyl, or a (poly)ether group, and either: at least one hydroxyl group, or at least one alkoxy group represented by -OR1 group, where R1 is alkyl, or a (poly)ether group, or at least one oxyalkyl group represented by -OR1, where R1 is hydroxyalkyl or a (poly)ether group. The disclosed technology further relates to a method of lubricating a mechanical device (such as an internal combustion engine) with the lubricating composition. The disclosed technology further relates to the use of the oxyalkylated aromatic polyol compound in the lubricating composition to a passenger car internal combustion engine at least one of (i) control of fuel economy, (ii) control of corrosion, (iii) cleanliness, and (iv) control of bore wear.

    Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, it has been discovered that additive gels can provide additives to a functional fluid over time. In accordance with the present invention it has been discovered that an additive gel comprising i.) at least two additives selected from the group comprising detergents, dispersants, acids, bases, over based detergent, succinated polyolefins or mixtures thereof wherein the selected additives when combined form a gel; ii.) optionally at least one additive comprising viscosity modifier(s), friction modifier(s), detergent(s), cloud point depressant(s), pour point depressant(s), demulsifier(s), flow improver(s), anti static agent(s), dispersant(s), antioxidant(s), antifoam(s), corrosion/rust inhibitor(s), extreme pressure/antiwear agent(s), seal swell agent(s), lubricity aid(s), antimisting agent(s), and mixtures thereof; resulting in a controlled release gel that over time releases at least one desired additive into a functional fluid when the gel is contacted with the functional fluid.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a composition comprising at least one sulfurized overbased product made by contacting (A) at least one overbased product or (A') at least one boron-containing overbased product with (B) sulfur and/ or at least one source of sulfur; said overbased product (A) or boron-containing overbas ed product (A') being made using at least one acidic material, with the proviso that when said acidic material is other than SO2 or a source of SO2 said overbased product (A) or boron-containing overbased product (A') is contacted with an effective amount of SO2 or a source of SO2 to displace at least part of said acidic material. In one embodiment the sulfurized overbased product is an overbased thiosulfate or a boron- containing overbased thiosulfate. In one embodiment, the sulfurized overbase d product is made using the overbased product (A) and the composition further comprises at least one non-sulfurized boron-containing overbased product. Th e sulfurized overbased products are thermally stable and are useful as extreme pressure (EP) and/or anti-wear agents or antioxidants for use in lubricants, function al fluids and normally liquid fuels. The functional fluids can be oil-based, water-oil emulsions or water-based. The sulfurized overbased products are particularly suitable for useas EP and/or anti-wear agents for use in gear lubricants and cutting fluids. In one embodiment lubricating compositions are provided that pass both the L-37 Hig h Torque Test and the L-42 High Speed Shock Test without the necessity of employing phosphorus and sulfurized olefin anti-wear systems in their formulation.
