    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently convent injected electric power to light stimulated emission, in an organic laser which is pumped electrically. SOLUTION: A device having a single solid-state light source is realized. The light source has a layer structure, constituted of a plurality of layers containing two conductor layers 131, 132 between which first luminescent organic material 14 is sandwiched. Contacts for making a current flow in the part between the conductor layers are installed, and incoherent electromagnetic radiation 16 of a first wavelength is obtained from the first organic mateal 14. The layer structure has an optical waveguide constituted of a first clad region 171 and a second clad region 172 between which a core region 18 is sandwiched. The optical waveguide is arranged so that at least a part of the incoherent electromagnetic radiation 16 of the first wavelength is received by the optical waveguide. The core region 18 absorbs the incoherent electromagnetic radiation of the firs wavelength and generates coherent electromagnetic radiation of a second wavelength.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent reliability in the air and appropriately high carrier mobility by using an inorganic thin film transistor as an n-channel transistor and an organic thin film transistor as a p-channel transistor. SOLUTION: The product consists of at least first and second transistors. The two transistors operate by being connected to each other. In a complementary inverter circuit 10, for example, the first transistor is an n-channel transistor 11 and the second transistor is a p-channel transistor 12. The n-channel transistor 11 is an inorganic thin film transistor and the p-channel transistor 12 is an organic thin film transistor. It is preferable that the active layer of the p-channel (organic) TFT is α-6T and that of the n-channel (inorganic) TFT is amorphous silicon (a-Si).

    Abstract: An electronic odor sensor includes first and second amplifiers (421 to 42N), a biasing network (521 to 52N), and a device (56) connected to receive the output signals from the first and second amplifiers. The device (56) is configured to correlate the received output signals to the presence or absence of an odor. The first and second amplifiers have respective first and second organic semiconductor layers (531 to 53N) and are configured to produce output signals responsive to the conductivities of their respective organic semiconductor layers. The conductivities of the organic semiconductor layers are responsive to voltages applied to associated ones of the amplifiers and to the presence of the odor. The biasing network applies the voltages to the amplifiers.
