Abstract: The present invention is a novel and improved method and apparatus for performing position location in wireless communications system. One embodiment comprises a method for performing position location in a wireless communication system using a set of signals transmitted from a set of satellites including the steps of receiving signal samples, rotating an acquisition code by a first rotation amount yielding a rotated acquisition code, despreading said signal samples using rotated acquisition code yielding despread data, accumulating said despread data over a first duration yielding partially accumulated data, rotating said partially accumulated data by a second rotation amount yielding rotated data and accumulating said rotated data.

Abstract: A novel and improved method and apparatus for searching is described. Channe l data is despread utilizing a matched filter structure. The in-phase and quadrature amplitudes of the despreading (410) delivered to coherent accumulators (430, 432) to sum for a programmable duration of time. The amplitude accumulations are squared and summed (440) to produce an energy measurement. The energy measurement is accumulated for a second programmable time to perform non-coherent accumulation (450). The resulting value is used to determine the likelihood of a pilot signal at that offset. Each matched filter structure comprises an N-value shift register for receiving data, a programmable bank of taps to perform despreading and optional Walsh decovering, and an adder structure to sum the resulting filter tap calculations.

Abstract: A data Interface for transferring digital data between a host and a client over a communication path using packet structures linked together to form a communication protocol for communicating a pre-selected set of digital control and presentation data. The signal protocol is used by link controllers configured to generate, transmit, and receive packets forming the communications protocol, and to form digital data into one or more types of data packets, with at least one residing in the host device and being coupled to the client through the communications path. The interface provides a cost-effective, low power, bi-directional, high-speed data transfer mechanism over a short-range 'serial' type data link, which lends itself to implementation with miniature connectors and thin flexible cables which are especially useful in connecting display elements such as wearable micro-displays to portable computers and wireless communication devices.

Abstract: Searcher hardware is multiplexed to perform simultaneous searches in either an IS-95 CDMA mode or a GPS mode. In the IS-95 mode, the search hardware is time-multiplexed into a number of searcher time slices, each of which can generate a PN sequence to despread a data sequence. In the GPS mode, the search hardware is configured as a number of distinct GPS channels, each of which can generate a Gold code sequence for tracking a GPS signal from a particular GPS satellite. This configuration allows the searcher to perform multiple GPS signal searches simultaneously. Signal searching in both IS-95 and GPS modes is performed at significantly higher speeds compared to conventional searcher hardware. Moreover, the search hardware can be dynamically configured to operate in either the IS-95 or the GPS mode, eliminating the need for dedicated circuitry for each mode of operation.
