Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester composition having excellent flameretardancy and mechanical properties and good retention stability by compounding a specific amount of a specific brominated polystyrene to a polyester having melt- anisotropy. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition is produced by compounding (A) 100 pts.wt. of a melt-anisotropic polyester containing ethylenedioxy unit as essential component and having a meltviscosity of 10-15,000 poise with (B) 0.5-60 pts.wt. of a brominated polystyrene having a weight-average molecular weight of 30X 10 -100X10 , especially a polymer containing the structural unit of formula as main constituent component.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for manufacturing a liquid crystalline resin pellet improving a discharge stability. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the liquid crystalline resin pellet comprises the steps of distributing an excess cooling water of an amount of 1.1 to 10 times as large as a cooling water amount at a normal time of pelletizing onto a trough 7 in response to a signal obtained by sensing a distribution fault of a strand group 3 generated on the trough 7 up to an arrival at a cutter by a sensor 11 when the group 3 of the liquid crystalline resin from a reaction container 1 is discharged onto the trough 7.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To decrease the amt. of a residual liq. crystal polymer in a polycondensation reactor and improve the yield and heat stability of the polymer produced by using a specific polycondensation reactor. CONSTITUTION: In a polycondensation reactor 6, a stirrer is installed which has a bottom blade 5 and helical ribbon blades 4 attached to at least two shafts 3 of a frame which has no central shaft. The shafts 3 are located at a distance of shorter than 1/5 of the diameter of the reactor from the wall surface of the reactor. In the reactor 6, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, a diaminated arom. dihydroxy compd., and a bis(β-hydroxyethyl) ester of an arom. dicarboxylic acid are subjected to polycondensation by acetic acid removal to obtain a liq. crystal polymer having a logarithmic viscosity of 0.3dl/g or higher (in pentachlorophenol at 60 deg.C in a concn. of 0.1g/dl) and a melt viscosity of 10-20,000P.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the yield of pellets of a liq. crystalline polyester which contains little contaminants and does not clog a nozzle. CONSTITUTION:A liq. crystalline polyester is produced by continuous batch polymn. wherein a liq. crystalline polyester is formed by soln. polymn. in a polymn. vessel equipped with a feed charge or liq. transporting port, a polymerizate discharge port, a stirrer, and a jacket, and the resulting polymer melt is discharged, while the next batch of feedstock is fed to the vessel to repeat the polymn. The polymn. is carried out under such a condition that the polymer melt is discharged from the vessel until the amt. of melt remaining reaches 30kg per m or lower of the internal vol. of the vessel before the next batch is fed.
