Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a phase difference film having small dependency on the angle of a visual field by copolymerizing monomers giving polymers causing positive and negative double refractions in the form of films, forming a film of the resulting copolymer and orienting the film by uniaxial stretching. CONSTITUTION:At least one kind of monomer giving a homopolymer causing positive double refraction DELTAn1 defined by equation I in the form of a uniaxially stretched film is copolymerized with at least one kind of monomer giving a homopolymer causing negative double refraction DELTAn1. In the equation I, nalphai is the refractive index of the film in the direction of the stretching axis in the plane of the film and nbetai in the refractive index of the film in a direction perpendicular to the stretching axis. A film of the resulting copolymer is formed and oriented by uniaxial stretching. A phase difference film having small dependency on the angle of a visual field and capable of extending the visual angle range can be obtd.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a color filter and the color filter, which solves the problem of increase of the manufacturing cost caused by increase of the number of photomasks to be used in the color filter with post spacers arranged by lamination. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the color filter for a liquid crystal display element with the post spacers arranged thereon and in forming the post spacers by laminating two or more kinds of coloring layers with photolithography, the method is characterized by using a photomask for formation of the coloring layers in common with respective colors while shifting it by a pitch size of a pixel, by making the photomask for the formation of the coloring layers contain a pattern for the formation of the post spacers and a pixel pattern and by making the pixel pattern exist in a position corresponding to that of the pattern for the formation of the post spacers shifted by the pitch size of the pixel.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent leakage of light from a color layer with respect to a liquid crystal display device which is driven by an electric field in the direction parallel to the substrate. SOLUTION: The filter is constituted so that a black matrix 2 and a color layer 3 of a plurality of colors on a substrate 1 are formed, and a transparent conductive layer is not formed on the color layer 3 side of the substrate. In this case, the ratio RBM/RRGB of the volume resistivity RBM of the black matrix preferably made of a resin to the volume resistivity RRGB of the color layer 3 is specified to =10 for all colors.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To measure a thickness of a thin film with high accuracy by correcting the effect of distortion spectroscopy intensity of an interference light due to the thin film in accordance with the spectroscopy penetration characteristic of a thin film material. CONSTITUTION:A white measurement light from a light source 11 is emitted on a color filter film 5 with a color liquid crystal to be measured, a measurement light which is reflected thereby to become an interference light is introduced into a spectroscopy section 3 to be separated by a plane diffraction grating 34 so that components in a prescribed wavelength range are focused on an image sensor 36 to form an image 35. An image sensor drive circuit 37 reads an optical intensity of the image 35 by each image to transmit to an operation section 4 via a buffer amplifier 38 as a voltage signal so that the measurement spectroscopy intensity F (lambda) is obtained. A ratio (modulation signal) X (lambda) between intensity F (lambda) and an average spectroscopy intensity G (lambda) that was obtained beforehand by the same measurement order in terms of a plurality of samples with thin films of which kinds are the same as the coating film 5 having different thickness, is obtained, then in the peak values of plural wavelengths (maximum wavelength and minimum wavelength), the thickness is calculated from the adjacent maximum wavelengths or minimum wavelengths.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a bright color filter for a semitransmissive liquid crystal display device having little difference in chromaticity between a reflective mode and a transmissive mode and to obtain the semitransmissive liquid crystal display device having high color reproducibility in a transmissive display, having excellent characteristics (color reproducibility and brightness) in a reflective display and being low-cost. SOLUTION: The color filter contains transmission regions 7 and reflection regions 6, comprises pixels of at least one color in which the transmission region and the reflection region are composed of an identical color material and the reflection region contains a transparent region and further comprises pixels of at least one color except for the pixels containing the transparent region which have two or more kinds of coloring layers stacked on the transmission region. The semitransmissive liquid crystal display device uses a three wavelength-type LED (light emitting diode) light source as a backlight light source and the color filter containing the pixels of at least one color in which the transmission region and the reflection region are composed of an identical coloring layer and has the transparent region in the reflection region.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color filter which is the color filter for a liquid crystal display element of an IPS system and is hardly affected by static electricity without the occurrence of the lowering in yield by peeling of conductive thin films formed on the rear surface and a process for production thereof. SOLUTION: This color filter is formed by providing the surface of a transparent substrate 1 with at least a black matrix layer and respective colored layers of three primary colors in the apertures of the black matrices and in part on the black matrices. The color filter described above includes the films 3 which are patterned and formed on the surface of the transparent substrate 1 on the side not formed with the lack matrix layer and the colored layers and have electrical conductivity. This process is for production thereof.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the durability of the sticking surface on the glass side of the liquid crystal cell of the phase difference film and/or the sticking surface on the polarizing film side of the phase difference film and to improve the reliability of a word processor, personal computer, portable television, on-vehicle display, etc. CONSTITUTION:This phase difference film is constituted by subjecting at least one surface of the phase difference film constituted of a polycarbonate polymer to a hydrolysis treatment in such a manner that a treatment index HL defined by HL=A500/N from the absorbance A500 of total rays and the number N of the treated surface attains >=0.030. This polarizing film integrated polarizing film is constituted by sticking the polarizing film to the hydrolyzed surface of this phase difference film.
