    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a base film having good electromagnetic conversion properties and durability by making the Poisson's ratio of the width direction to the longitudinal direction of the film at least a specified value. SOLUTION: An aromatic polyamide and others are used as the material of a polymer film. The Poisson's ratio of the width direction to the longitudinal direction of the film is made at least 0.4. In this process, the film is stretched in order to have an aimed Poisson's ratio in a wet process in its film making process and in a tenter and to improve its mechanical properties and dimensional stability. A successive biaxial orientation method and others are used at the orientation method. After that, the film is heat-treated, when it is used as a base film for a magnetic recording medium, a magnetic layer is formed on one side or on both sides, and this is slit in a prescribed width to make a magnetic recording medium. In this way, a magnetic tape having good electromagnetic properties and durability can be produced.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable good surface properties and flatness at a high speed by making a solvent having compatibility with a solvent used chiefly in an organic polymer solution exist between a support and an organic polymer solution film to be cast.     Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arom. polyamide film which gives a composite which does not undergo the degradation in surface properties, such as the occurrence of curl or wrinkles, nor the degradation in functions even when repeatedly used under severe conditions by imparting a specific degree of orientation respectively to each of the outermost surface layers of both sides of the film. SOLUTION: This polyamide film is obtd. from a polyamide contg. 50mol% or higher repeating units represented by formula I and/or formula II wherein Ar1 to Ar3 are each a group represented by formula III [wherein X and Y are each O, CH2 , CO, SO2 , S, C(CH3 )2 , etc.], etc., provided their H atoms may be partly substd. by other substituents; and H atoms in amide bonds may be substd. by other substituents}. The polyamide may be a blend of polymers and may contain necessary additives. The ratio (PA/PB) of degrees of orientation (PA and PB, provided PA>=PB) obtd. from the ATR spectra of the outermost layers of both sides of the film is 1.10 or lower, and the film has a thermal shrinkage at 220 deg.C of 5% or lower, a coefficient of thermal expansion of -1×10 to 40×10 (cm/cm)/ deg.C, and a coefficient of humidity expansion of -15×10 to 20×10 (cm/cm)/%RH.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a film for an excellent high-density magnetic recording medium having excellent slitting properties and high elasticity by specifying the longitudinal density irregularity, preferably axial density irregularity, mean density of the film and at least unidirectional Young's modulus.
