Abstract: An absorbent binder composition is provided which is capable of spontaneous crosslinking after application to a substrate, at a temperature of about 120°C or less. The absorbent binder composition includes a monoethylenically unsaturated polymer, such as carboxylic acid, sulphonic acid, or phosphoric acid, or salts thereof, or a quarternary ammonium salt, and an acrylate or methacrylate ester that contains an alkoxysilane functionality, or a monomer capable of co-polymerization with a compound containing a trialkoxy silane functional group and subsequesnt reaction with water to form a silanol group. The absorbent binder composition is particularly suitable for use in manufacturing a wide variety of absorbent articles. A method of making the absorbent binder composition includes preparing a monomer solution, adding the monomer solution to an initiator solution which can also contain monomer, and activating a polymerization initiator within the initiator solution.A flexible absorbent binder composition is also provided which is capable of spontaneous crosslinking after application to a substrate, at a temperature of about 120°C or less. The flexible absorbent binder composition includes about 15 to about 99.8% by mass monoethylenically unsaturated polymer units, about 0.1 to about 20% by mass polyacrylate ester units having an alkoxysilane functionality, and about 0.1 to about 75% by mass of polymer units selected from polyolefin glycols and polyolefin oxides. The flexible absorbent binder composition can be prepared using a template polymerization process, with the preformed polyolefin glycol or polyolefin oxide serving as a template polymer.

Abstract: A process for preparation of a reactive single component granulate, especially a single component coating- and/or adhesive granulate comprises: (a) preparation of a mixture containing at least one isocyanate reactive starting polymer and at least one di- and/or polyisocyanate; and (b) preparation of the granulate from the mixture. A process for preparation of a reactive single component granulate, especially a single component coating- and/or adhesive granulate by the steps: (a) preparation of a mixture containing at least one isocyanate reactive starting polymer and at least one di- and/or polyisocyanate, preferably by melting the mixture components and/or warming to a viscous state or a state where flow is possible; (b) preparation of the granulate from the mixture is new. An independent claim is also included for a reactive single component granulate, especially a single component coating and/or adhesive granulate obtained as above.

Abstract: Provided are silane copolymers formed from one or more polyisocyanates, one or more organo-functional silanes and one or more lubricious polymers having at least two functional groups. The silane copolymers are prepared by reacting one or more polyisocyanates with one or more lubricious polymers having at least two functional groups, which may be the same or different, that are reactive with an isocyanate functional group and with one or more organo-functional silanes having at least two functional groups, which may be the same or different, that are reactive with an isocyanate functional group, and at least one functional group reactive with a silicone rubber substrate. The silane copolymers are useful as coatings for polysiloxane (rubber) and other difficult to coat substrates, especially for medical devices, such as catheters.

Abstract: A composition suitable for the production of protective coatings, especially for the inhibition of fouling, more particularly in marine environments, which comprises: (A) a polymer carrying pendant and/or terminal curable functional groups, at least a major proportion of the repeating units in the polymer of (A) being other than siloxane units, and (B) a curable organohydrogen polysiloxane or polydiorganosiloxane, the curable functional groups in component (A) being capable of undergoing a condensation curing reaction with component (B), and normally also a solvent and a curing catalyst. The compositions provide coatings having good adhesion and mechanical durability, and require only moisture curing at ambient temperature.
