Abstract: Thermoplastic molding materials based on styrene polymers which have been made impact-resistant and on polyphenylene ethers, wherein the particles of the soft component of the styrene polymer which has been made impact-resistant have a mean diameter of more than 1 micron, and wherein the proportion of particles which have a diameter of less than 0.6 micron is not less than 40% by weight and the proportion of particles which have a diameter of from 0.6 to 3 microns is less than 3% by weight.

Abstract: The invention relates to a thermoplastic moulding composition containing from 50 to 95 parts by weight of a copolymer A, from 5 to 50 parts by weight of a graft copolymer B, and from 5 to 15 parts by weight of a diene polymer D, and optionally containing conventional additives C. Copolymer A is built up from 65 to 95% by weight of a monovinylaromatic monomer and from 5 to 35% by weight of an unsaturated dicarboxylic anhydride and may optionally contain up to 20% by weight of an acrylically unsaturated monomer. The graft copolymer B comprises b1) from 50 to 90% by weight, based on B, of at least one elastomeric graft base based on diene polymers, and b2) from 10 to 50% by weight, based on B, of a graft shell built up from b21 at least 75% by weight of a monovinylaromatic monomer and b22 optionally from 1 to 25% by weight, based on b2, of at least one (meth)acrylate and/or acrylonitrile. The diene polymer D contains a reactive hydroxyl, thiol and/or amino groups in an amount of from 0.5 to 1.8 reactive groups per macromolecule. The moulding composition is prepared by combining a melt of component A with the graft copolymer B and mixing the components vigorously at temperatures >/=200 DEG C in the presence of the diene polymer D. The moulding composition is used to produce mouldings.
