Abstract: The invention relates to a thermoplastic moulding composition built up from a copolymer A and an aromatic polyester B. The (co)polymer A comprises predominantly methyl methacrylate and is present in a proportion of from 1 to 15% by weight, based on the moulding composition of A + B. The aromatic polyester comprises b1) from 10 to 90 mol%, based on B, of recurring units of the general formula in which: -X- is -O-, -S-, -SO2-, -SO-, -CO-, an alkylene group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms and/or an alkylidene group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R , R , R , R , R' , R' , R' and R' , which may be identical or different, are a hydrogen atom, a chlorine atom, a bromine atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and b2) from 90 to about 10 mol% of recurring units of the general formula in which -X-, R , R , R , R , R' , R' , R' and R' are as defined above. Component B is used in a proportion of from 85 to 99% by weight, based on the moulding composition. The moulding composition may optionally contain conventional additives and is used for the production of mouldings.

Abstract: A thermoplastic moulding composition which is a mixture of 5-95% by weight of an impact-modified styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer (I) and 95-5% by weight of a polycarbonate (II). The impact-modified styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer (I) is a mixture of two constituents A and B. It contains from 50 to 95% by weight of a copolymer A, based on A + B, which is built up from: a1) from 65 to 95 parts by weight of a monovinylaromatic monomer, a2) from 5 to 35 parts by weight of an unsaturated dicarboxylic anhydride, optionally a3) from 2 to 15 parts by weight of an acrylically unsaturated monomer. Constituent B is present in a proportion of 5 to 50% by weight, based on A + B, and is a graft copolymer built up from: b1) from 50 to 90 parts by weight of a rubber which has a glass transition temperature, Tg, of below 0 DEG C, b2) from 10 to 50 parts by weight of a monovinylaromatic monomer, and b3) from 0.1 to 25 parts by weight of a (meth)acrylate and/or acrylonitrile, where, regarding the parts by weight of the monomers building up the hard matrix and the graft shell, the absolute values of the difference of the parts by weight between the sum of [a2) and a3)] and [b3)] differ by 4 or less than 4. The moulding composition according to the invention is prepared by mixing the constituents component I with component II in the melt. The moulding compositions according to the invention are used for the production of mouldings.

(I) are prepd. by polymerisation of monovinyl aromatic monomers in the presence of a rubber. The amt. of rubber in (I) is 2-20 pref. 5-15 wt.%. (II) is esp. poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene)ether (IIA). The mouldings have low shrinkage and high impact resistance.
