Abstract: A compound of formula (II) is useful as a UV absorber that possesses affinity for textile fibers in cellulosic textile materials. In formula (II): X is -CR1=CR2; R1 and R2 are independently H, alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxycarbonyl, acyloxy, carboxyl, cyano, nitro, F, Cl, Br, sulphonyl, alkylsulphonyl, or optionally substituted phenyl or R1 can also be -NQ-CO- which is bonded with its carbonyl carbon atom to the ortho position of the adjacent phenyl ring to form a benzopyrrolidine system; Q is H or alkyl; Z is alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxycarbonyl, acyloxy, carboxyl, cyano, Cl, F, Br, nitro, sulphonyl, alkylsulphonyl, amino, monoalkylamino, dialkylamino, optionally alkyl substituted carboxamido, or optionally saturated, 5 or 6 membered heterocyclic radical that can be optionally benzofused or any two adjacent Z radicals can form an optionally saturated 5 or 56 membered ring and if p is 0 an ortho disposed carboxyl group may be combined with the carbonyl group present and a nitrogen atom attached directly to this carbonyl group to form a cyclic imide; n is 1 to 3; p is 0 to 5; Y is a aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or mixed aliphatic-aromatic radical which has at least m' primary and/or secondary amino groups for forming amide bonds with the structural unit of formula (I) and the group Y can be also quaternized at the tertiary and/or free primary and/or secondary nitrogen atoms present or still present and m' is 1 to 200 where m if the structural units (I) accounts form 10 to 1000% if the m; provided that however at least one structural unit (I) is present in the compound of formula (II).

Abstract: The invention describes cationically modified particulate anionic polyurethanes having a particle size from 10 nm to 10 mum, the particulate polyurethanes being cationically modified through surface coating with cationic polymers. Preferred cationic polymers are polymers containing vinylamine units, polymers containing vinylimidazole units, polymers containing quaternary vinylimidazole units, condensates of imidazole and epichlorohydrin, crosslinked polyamidoamines, ethyleneimine-grafted crosslinked polyamidoamines, polyethyleneimines, alkoxylated polyethyleneimines, crosslinked polyethyleneimines, amidated polyethyleneimines, alkylated polyethyleneimines, polyamines, amine-epichlorohydrin polycondensates, alkoxylated polyamines, polyallylamines, polydimethyldiallylammonium chlorides, polymers containing basic (meth)acrylamide or (meth)acrylic ester units, polymers containing basic quaternary (meth)acrylamide or (meth)acrylic ester units, and/or lysine condensates.

Abstract: The invention relates to copolymers which comprise, polymerized into them, ( A) 60 to 90 % by weight of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated polyalkylene oxide monomer of general formula (I), wherein X represents -CH2 - or -CO-, if Y represents -O-; -CO-, if Y represents -NH, Y represents -O- or - NH-; R1 represents hydrogen or methyl; R2 represents the same or different C 2- C6 alkylene groups that can be linear or branched and that can be arranged b y blocks or at random; R3 represents hydrogen or a C1-C4 alkyl; n is an intege r from 3 to 50, (B) 1 to 40 % by weight of at least one quaternized nitrogenou s monoethylenically unsaturated monomer, (C) 0 to 39 % by weight of anionic monoethylenically unsaturated monomers and (D) 0 to 30 % by weight of other nonionic monoethylenically unsaturated monomers and have an average molecula r weight Mw of 2000 to 100000. The invention also relates to the use of said copolymers as dispersants for clay minerals.
