Abstract: Production of polyetherols by catalytic adduction of alkylene oxides to initiator substances is such that (i) a tertiary amine catalyst and (ii) a basic alkali(ne earth)- based catalyst are used at 0.1-5% and 0.01-0.25% respectively, each amount based on the polyetherol weight, the weight ratio (i) : (ii) being 1 : 0.002-2.5. An independent claim is also included for polyetherols thus obtained and having a hydroxy number of 80-800 mg KOH/g and a functionality >=2.

Abstract: Polyol mixtures (b) for the production of retarded polyurethane foam comprise (b1) di- to octa-functional polyether-ols (OH number = 200-1300 mg KOH/g) based on ethylene oxide (EO) and optionally propylene oxide (PO) and/or butylene oxide (BO) (more than 30 wt% EO) and (b2) polyether-ols (OH no. = 100-1000) based on PO and/or BO and optionally up to 30 wt% EO. A method for the production of retarded polyurethane foam by reacting: (a) optionally modified polyisocyanates; (b) a polyol mixture and optionally; (c) other isocyanate-reactive compounds in presence of; (d) water; (e) catalysts; (f) fire retardants; (g) blowing agents; and (h) optionally other additives The polyol mixture (b) comprises (b1) di- to octa-functional polyether-ol(s) based on ethylene oxide (EO) and optionally propylene oxide (PO) and/or butylene oxide (BO), with an EO content of more than 30 wt% based on total alkylene oxide and an OH number of 200-1300 mg KOH/g, and (b2) polyether-ol(s) based on PO and/or BO and optionally EO, with an EO content of not more than 30 wt% and an OH number of 100-1000. An Independent claim is also included for reaction-retarded polyurethane foam obtained by this method.

Abstract: Preparation of polyetherols based on solid starting substances and liquid hydroxyl containing costarters by catalytic addition of alkylene oxides. The starter combination contains ethoxy structure bearing diols, where the ratio of the average number of OH groups per mole in the starter combination to the number of ethoxy structures in the polyetherol is 1-0.2 to 1.8, and the weight proportion of ethoxy structure bearing diols to the average molecular weight of the polyetherols is 1-2 to 1-15. An Independent claim is also included for the polyetherols obtained as above, having an OH number of 300-650 mg KOH/g.
