Abstract: Emulsifier-free antifoams are obtainable by mixing a) from 80 to 99% by weight of at least one finely divided, virtually water-insoluble, inert solid with b) from 1 to 20% by weight of at least one hydrophobic, organic compound which has an antifoam action and is solid at room temperature in the absence of a solvent in a shear gradient such that the particle size of the compounds (b) which have an antifoam action is reduced to a mean particle size of from 0.5 to 15 mum, emulsifier-free oil-in-water dispersions of mixtures of (a) and (b) are prepared by mixing the component (a) in an amount of from 80 to 99% by weight with the compounds of component (b) in an amount of from 1 to 20% by weight in the absence of emulsifiers in an extruder or kneader in a manner such that the mean particle size of the component (b) in the mixture is brought to 0.5 to 15 mum, at up to 100° C., and emulsifying the mixture in water, and the oil-in-water dispersions thus obtainable are used as antifoams and/or deaerators for aqueous, disperse or nondisperse liquids, in particular as antifoams and/or deaerators in the paper industry, in the food industry and in wastewater treatment plants.

Abstract: The invention relates to defoaming agents that are devoid of emulsifiers, obtained by mixing: a) between 80 and 99 wt. % of at least one fine-particle d, practically water-insoluble inert solid with b) between 1 and 20 wt. % of at least one hydrophobic organic compound that is solid at room temperature and has a defoaming action in substance with such a shear gradient that the particle size of the defoaming compounds (b) is reduced to an average partic le size of between 0.5 and 15 m. The invention also relates to a method for producing oil-in-water dispersions that are devoid of emulsifiers from mixtures of (a) and (b). Said method involves the mixing of component (a) in a quantity of between 80 and 99 wt. % with component (b) in a quantity of between 1 and 20 wt % in the absence of emulsifiers in an extruder or kneadi ng machine, in such a way that the average particle size of component (b) in th e mixture is regulated to between 0.5 and 15 m, at temperatures of up to 100 ~ C and the subsequent emulsification of the mixture in water. The invention further relates to the use of the oil-in-water dispersions obtained by said method as defoaming agents and/or deaerators of aqueous, disperse or non- disperse liquids, in particular as defoaming agents and/or deaerators in the paper industry, in thefoodstuff industry and in purification plants.

Abstract: The invention relates to a defoaming agent and/or deaerator based on oil-in- water dispersions, the oil phase of which contains at least one compound fro m the group of alcohols comprising at least 12 C atoms, alkoxylated fat alcohols, monoglycerides, diglycerides, and triglycerides of fatty acids, fatty acid ester from carboxylic acids comprising at least 12 C atoms and monovalent to trivalent alcohols comprising 3 to 22 C atoms, hydrocarbons having a boiling point of more than 200 ~C, fatty acids comprising 12 to 22 C atoms, 3-thiaalkane-1-ole, 3-thiaoxide alkane-1-ole, 3-thiadioxide-alkane-ol e, and ester of the thiaalkane compounds in combination with (i) at least one polyglycerine that is obtained by esterification of at least 20 percent of polyglycerine with a carboxylic acid comprising 12 to 36 C atoms, and (ii) a t least one bisamide consisting of ethylene diamine and carboxylic acids comprising 10 to 36 C atoms while the aqueous phase thereof contains at leas t one stabilizer, water, and an optional thickener, for aqueous media that ten d to foam. Also disclosed is the use of said defoaming agent and/or deaerator for controlling foam in media tending to foam, particularly for controlling foam during cellulose boiling, cellulose washing, grinding of paper pulp, paper production, and dispersion of pigments used for paper production.

Also disclosed is the use of said defoaming agent and/or deaerator for controlling foam in media tending to foam, particularly for controlling foam during cellulose boiling, cellulose washing, grinding of paper pulp, paper production, and dispersion of pigments used for paper production.

Abstract: A process for fractionating water-soluble or water-dispersible amino-containing synthetic polymers having a broad molar mass distribution by ultrafiltration, wherein the polymer solution or dispersion to be fractionated is fed continuously into an ultrafiltration circulation with at least one ultrafiltration unit, and retentate having a narrower molar mass distribution and permeate are discharged continuously, in such a way that the ultrafiltration circulation is essentially in a steady state, the polymers obtainable by this process and their use.
