Abstract: Dialkyl-hydroxyalkane phosphonates are prepared by reacting a phosphonate and an aldehyde in the presence of a basic catalyst. Dialkyl-hydroxyalkyl phosphonates (I) of formula (1) are produced by reaction of: (A) a phosphonate of formula: (R -O)-PO(OR )-H (2), (B) an aldehyde of formula: R -COH (3), and (C) a basic catalyst, involves (1) mixing (A), (B) and (C), or (2) mixing (A) and (B) or (A) and (C) at 20-60 degrees C, and adding the subsequent component when the mixture reaches 20-60 degrees C, then heating at 61-300 degrees C for 1-30 minutes. R ,R = 1-10C alkyl, 6-13C aryl or 7-14C benzyl, optionally substituted with halogen or hydroxy; R = H, 1-10C alkyl, 6-13C aryl, 7-14C benzyl or a furfuryl Independent claims are also included for: (i) a polyurethane (II) containing (I); and (ii) a process for the production of (II) by reaction of: (D) an organic poly isocyanate, (E) a high mol. wt. compound having, at least, groups containing a hydrogen free to react with isocyanate groups, and (F) a dialkyl-hydroxyalkyl phosphonate (I).

Abstract: Mixture (I) comprises modified silicate layer (i), in that at least one compound (ii) (not having isocyanate group reactive hydrogen atom) is intercalated and another compound (b) (with isocyanate group reactive hydrogen atom), where (b) is a polyether alcohol with a molecular weight greater than 2000 g/mol and exhibits an ethylene oxide based end block, whose part by weight to the total weight of (b) is greater than or equal to 10 wt.%. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a preparation of silicate layer containing polyurethane comprising reacting isocyanate with a compound having isocyanate group reactive hydrogen atom, where in the reaction (I) is used; (2) an elastomeric polyurethane (II) obtained by the above method; and (3) a molding resin or hard foam material based on (II).

Abstract: A polyol and an isocyanate are mixed together to form a polyurethane and the mixture is rapidly frozen to a level which prevents the reaction from commencing. The reactive mixture is then pelletized, introduced into a hollow chamber around a component to be insulated and then heated to effect the reaction. Pelletized material is poured, cast or blown into the hollow chamber at a single point(3) between two walls(1,2). The foamed insulating material has a heat conductivity of not >36mW/mK.
