Abstract: The invention relates to acrylate polymers comprising a K-value ranging from 10 to 60, which can be obtained by the radical polymerization of: 30 to 99 wt. % of tert-butyl acrylate and/or tert-butyl methacrylate designated as monomer A; 1 to 28 wt. % of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid designated as monomer B, and; 0 to 60 wt. % of a radically copolymerizable monomer or of a radically copolymerizable monomer mixture designated as monomer C, whereby at least one of monomers C yields a homopolymer with a glass-transition temperature lower than 30° C., with the provision that the wt. %'s total 100. The radical polymerization is carried out in the presence of alkane thiols with a C chain length of C 14 to C 22. The invention also relates to acrylate polymers comprising a K-value ranging from 10 to 60, which can be obtained by the radical polymerization of: 30 to 99 wt. % of tert-butyl acrylate and/or tert-butyl methacrylate designated as monomer A; 1 to 28 wt. % of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid designated as monomer B, and; 0 to 60 wt. % of a radically copolymerizable monomer or of a radically copolymerizable monomer mixture designated as monomer C, whereby at least one of monomers C yields a homopolymer with a glass-transition temperature lower than 30° C., with the provision that the wt. %'s total 100. The radical polymerization is carried out in the presence of alkane thiols with a C chain length of C 10 to C 22 followed by a hydrogen peroxide treatment. The invention also relates to the use of these acrylate polymers as film formers as well as to their use in cosmetic preparations.

Abstract: Use is claimed as an additive for skin cosmetics or dermatological preparations of a copolymer made by radical initiated copolymerization of a mixture containing an N-vinylimidazole or allylamine monomer, this being followed by partial or full quaternization or protonization should the N-vinylimidazole or allylamine monomer be non- (or only partly) quaternized Use is claimed as an additive for skin cosmetics or dermatological preparations of a copolymer made by radical initiated copolymerization of a composition comprising (by wt.): (a) an N-vinylimidazole or diallylamine (1-99.99%); (b) a neutral or basic water-soluble monomer other than (a) (0-98.99%); (c) an unsaturated acid or anhydride (0-50%); (d) a radically-copolymerisable monomer other than (a), (b) or (c) (0-50%); and (e) a crosslinking monomer with two or more ethylenically-unsaturated non-conjugated double bonds. The copolymerization is followed by partial or full quaternization or protonization should monomer (a) be non- or only partly quaternized.

Abstract: Polímeros de acrilato con un valor K desde 10 hasta 60, obtenibles mediante polimerización por radicales de: - desde un 30 hasta un 99 % en peso de acrilato de terc.-butilo y/o de metacrilato de terc.-butilo como monómero A, - desde un 1 hasta un 28 % en peso de ácido acrílico y/o de ácido metacrílico como monómero B y - desde 0 hasta un 60 % en peso de un monómero copolimerizable por medio de radicales o de una mezcla de monómeros copolimerizables por medio de radicales, como monómero C, proporcionando al menos uno de los monómeros C un homopolímero con una temperatura de transición vítrea menor que 30ºC, con la condición de que los % en peso se sumen para dar 100, en presencia de alcanotioles con una longitud de la cadena carbonada desde 14 hasta 22 átomos de carbono.

Abstract: An ethylene terpolymer wax comprises units derived from ethylene (40-95 wt.%), units derived from at least one anhydride of 4-10C-dicarboxylic acid having ethylenic carbon-carbon double bond (0.1-40 wt.%), and units derived from ester having a molecular weight of up to 20000 g/moles (0.1-40 wt.%). An ethylene terpolymer wax comprises 40-95 wt.% units derived from ethylene, 0.1-40 wt.% units derived from at least one anhydride of 4-10C-dicarboxylic acid having ethylenic carbon-carbon double bond, and 0.1-40 wt.% units derived from ester of formula I having a molecular weight of up to 20000 g/moles. R1 = H, 1-10C alkyl, 3-12C cycloalkyl, or 6-14C aryl (preferably H or Me); R2 = 1-10C alkyl, 3-12C cycloalkyl, or 6-14C aryl (preferably Me) An Independent claim is also included for preparation of ethylene terpolymer wax by polymerizing ethylene, ester (I), and anhydride of 4-10C dicarboxylic acid at 500-4000 bars and 170-300degreesC.
