    Abstract: 1397957 Detergents containing builders HOECHST AG 14 Sept 1972 [24 Sept 1971] 42706/72 Heading C5D [Also in Division C2] Builders for detergent and cleansing agents comprise water-soluble salts of acid carboxylic acid esters prepared by reacting at least trivalent, 6-10C, aliphatic olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acids or hydroxy-carboxylic acids with aliphatic alcohols (3-6 OH groups), and in which each hydroxylic group of the alcohol and optionally the hydroxycarboxylic acid is esterified with a carboxylic acid molecule. Citric, aconitic, tricarballylic, dihydroxy-tricarballylic, nitrotriacetic and ethylenediamine-tetracetic acids may be used with glycerol, erythritol, pentaerythritol, mannitol, sorbitol or sugar alcohol (4-6 C) and the salts are of alkali metal or ammonium ion. A proportion of 10-80% by weight of salts may be used and then ion-active and/or non-ionic tensides and further conventional additives may be present. Examples describe the use of builders prepared from glycerol, sorbitol or pentaerythritol with nitric acid used with dodecylbenzene sulphonate, tallow fatty alcohol and hardened tallow soap, and also with additional magnesium silicate, sodium silicate, sodium perborate, sodium sulphate and tylose in detergent wash liquors.

    Abstract: 1284815 Vinyl alcohol/maleic acid copolymer salt compositions KNAPSACK AG 16 Sept 1970 [8 Oct 1969] 44267/70 Heading C3P [Also in Division C5] Detergent and cleaning agents based on anionactive and/or non-ionic tensides and optionally further addends, the agents containing watersoluble salts of copolymers of vinyl alcohol with maleic acid as a builder. Preferred copolymer salts have the formula in which m is the maleic acid salt fraction in the copolymer, of at most 55 mol. per cent, Me stands for an alkali metal or ammonium ion and n is a whole number within a range of which the lower limit is 3 and of which the upper limit is defined by the solubility of the polymer in water. In the examples the agents contain the sodium salt of a vinyl alcohol/maleic acid copolymer, an alkylaryl sulphonate, non-ionic polyoxypropylene glycol, sodium silicate, magnesium silicate, soap, sodium perborate and carboxymethyl cellulose.
