Abstract: PURPOSE:To accelerate operating speed and to reduce a cost by dividing a first halftone signal of N bits into high-order M bits and low-order (N-M) bits, generating a second halftone signal by adding the correction value of a selected table on the M bits, and supplying it to a display device of halftone of 24M level. CONSTITUTION:(P X Q) second halftone signals are generated by dividing the first halftone signal of N bits into the high-order M bits and the low-order (N-M) bits, selecting one of 2N M tables having (P X Q) correction values which satisfy P X Q>=2N M, respectively by using (N-M) bits, and adding the correction value of the selected table on the M bits. The number of dots of a display device 13 which displays the halftone of 2N level is less than that of display dots of a display device 11 which displays the halftone of 2M level. Also, it is assumed that N represents an integer >=2, and M is the integer which satisfies N>M>=1, and P and Q are natural numbers, and represent the number of dots in horizontal and vertical directions, respectively. In such a manner the operating speed can be accelerated, and the cost is reduced.

Abstract: A computer system is provided which allows adapters 2 to be inserted or removed while keeping the system operational, and which can automatically reconfigure the system according to insertion or removal of the adapters 2. When an adapter 2 is inserted, an adapter detection mechanism 11 informs a resource manager 19 of the insertion of the adapter 2 with an interrupt or the like. The resource manager 19 electrically and mechanically connects the adapter 2 immediately after its insertion, and reads the attribute information of the adapter 2 from a memory on the adapter 2 to perform the necessary setup, inclusion of the device driver necessary for the system, and assignment of memory and the like, thus enabling the adapter 2. When a user wants to remove an adapter, he or she issues an adapter removal request from an adapter removal button 12, or a keyboard, etc to the resource manager 19. This request is transmitted to the resource manager 19, which checks the running state of the adapter 2, and, if it can be removed, electrically and then mechanically disconnects it so that it can be removed. The user of the computer system removes the adapter 2 after it is disconnected.

Abstract: To enable the expansion, by way of a channel different from the bus signal lines, of the bus, of a computer system in which each local arbiter is supposed to output its own priority as the right to use the bus on a common arbitration bus through open-collector-type drivers to determine a winner in arbitration. Certain representation features (73, 79) having the functions of a local arbiter that represent the arbitration level of the other bus are provided in both a primary system and a secondary system linked via a channel in a signal transmission mode different from the signal transmission mode of the bus. Arbitration is first conducted on each of the buses of the primary and secondary system to determine winners in arbitration. Notification of the arbitration level of each winner is made through a channel to the representation feature on the other bus. After this notification, arbitration is conducted once again between a winner in arbitration on each bus and the representation feature representing the arbitration level of the other bus to determine a final winner.

If a user desires to remove the adaptor, the user makes an adaptor removal request with an adaptor removal button 12 or from the program to the resource manager 19.
