    Abstract: PURPOSE:To attain thin profile and light weight for the video display device having signal input terminals coping with plural video sources. CONSTITUTION:A gaseous discharge type display panel 1, a panel driving circuit 2 and a signal processing circuit 3 are integrated together and a video signal input terminal 7 and RGB signal input terminals 8 are provided on the display device. A video tape reproduction device or an optical disk reproduction device may be built in the video display device in place of the video signal input terminal 7 or a connection terminal of a semiconductor memory card on which a still picture is recorded may be provided to the video display device.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a direct-current type gas discharge display device having a high rate of aperture and enabling stable discharge to be effected therein, by adopting the anode configuration permitting a reduction in the discharge start voltage. CONSTITUTION:The area of a projected anode 11 portion onto a cathode is made to occupy 20% to 50% inclusive, of the total area of the cathode 3. The portion of the anode 11 other than the mentioned anode 11 portion is made as thin as possible to ensure a sufficient rate of opening. The discharge-starting voltage depends upon the uniformity of the potential prevailing between the cathode 3 and the anode 11. Since, therefore, it is possible to make uniform the potential distribution by making the area of the opposition portion between the cathode 3 and the anode 11 a specified value or a greater value than it, through enlarging of the projected anode 11 area on the cathode 3 it is possible to decrease the discharge-starting voltage to obtain a high quality of display based on a reliable discharge ignition.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the gas discharge type display device which is improved in directivity and with which high brightness is obtainable. CONSTITUTION:Lenses 7 and anodes 6 are installed on a front glass plate 1 and cathodes 5 are provided on a rear glass plate 2. The front glass plate 1 and the back glass plate 2 are held to face each other by insulators 3 and discharge spaces 4 are formed therebetween. The light emitted in the discharge spaces 4 and diffused in all directions is eventually condensed to one direction before the light is passed through the front glass 1 by the effect of the lenses 7. Then, the light concentrates in an observation direction and, therefore, the high brightness is obtd. even if the display device is formed with the higher finenes.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of crosstalk even when a picture element is densified by enclosing each display cell with bulkhead and whereby separating each cell from adjacent cell, and by providing a third electrode comprising an insulated conductive layer, on the back surface of a cathode. CONSTITUTION:A front glass sheet 13 and a back surface plate 11 are opposed with each other through a bulkhead 20 at a predetermined interval, and an anode 14 comprising transparent conductor is provided on the front glass sheet 13 and a cathode 12 on the back surface plate 11, while a conductive layer 22 insulated from the cathode 12 by a dielectric layer 21, is applied as a third electrode between the cathode 12 and the back surface plate 11. A display cell 23 is formed which is separated from adjacent cell, on the cross point between the cathode 12 and the anode 14. Each cell 23 will thus be an optically independent space, and a priming effect that facilitates the starting of discharging is obtained by preliminarily discharging between the cathode 12 and the third electrode 22 on the back surface. Even when the display cell is demsified, crosstalk hardly occurs, and stable discharge that is not dependent upon display condition is thus obtained constantly.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a high-quality display by using an anode bus made of a transparent conducting film printed and formed with a thick film and anode auxiliary lines made of a metal printed and formed with a thick film as anode lines, and connecting them. CONSTITUTION:When a positive voltage with respect to a cathode line 3 is applied to an anode line 11, a discharge cell 6 at the intersection is discharged and illuminated. A metal line 7 is formed on a front plate 2 by the thick film printing method, and an indium oxide ITO film 8 is formed on it by the thick film printing method as the anode line 11. When only the ITO film 8 is used for the anode lines 11, currents flowing on individual discharge cells are made nonuniform to cause intensity irregularities because the ITO film 8 has high resistance. The ITO film 8 and the metal lines 7 are connected together over the whole length to prevent this problem, and the currents flow on the metal lines 7. The discharge start voltage is reduced, and a stable display can be attained by the sure ignition of an electric discharge.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a DC gas discharge type display device adapted to be driven with a pulse-memory system, which gives a practical level of luminescence brightness with small cell pitches, has a sufficient pixel density for OA and exhibits a high luminescence brightness. CONSTITUTION:Grouped cathode members 2 are disposed on a rear panel 1 and intra- cathode spaces are sectioned by long-sized partition-wall strips 3 to provide discharge spaces. Further, several mutually adjoining cathode members of the grouped cathode members 2 are collectively regarded as one block, and a block partition wall 4 is installed, in parallel with the cathode members, between each two adjacent of the blocks. On the partition-wall strip group 3 there is adhered a glass plate 7 on which grouped anodes 5 and fluorescent materials 6 are coated and burned, so that the anodes 5 and cathode members 2 may oppose while intersecting each other at right angle, whereby the glass plate 7 is hermetically sealed with respect to the strip group 3. Scanning of the cathode members is not sequentially performed, but is conducted so that simultaneous discharge may not occur in two or more discharge spaces each having a cathode member included in the same block. By so doing, a panel with small cell pitches necessary for OA has a high luminescence brightness and has no display error.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the taillight which is thin and has uniform light emission brightness by utilizing a plasma display panel. CONSTITUTION:A back plate 1 and a glass plate 2 are held at an equal interval, their peripheries are sealed, and gas consisting principally of neon is charged therein. Two electrodes 4 and 5 are installed in the flat plate type discharge space which is thus formed and the entire space is discharged by external voltage application to illuminate. Consequently, the whole flat plate type lamp emits red light in the principle of a plasma display, so the taillight which has a uniform light emission distribution is realized. Further, this taillight contributes to the expansion of the spaces in the trunk room and room of an automobile because of the thin structure of the taillight main body.

CONSTITUTION:A pasty In.SnO(ITO) is mixed with a fluorescent material and the mixture is applied to a surface plate 1 supported by partition walls 6 and baked. When a potential is applied between a cathode 4 formed on a back plate 5 and the film 11 of the fluorescent material-ITO mixture, a glow discharge 10 is generated in a discharging space 9. Ultraviolet ray 8 emitted from the glow discharge excites the fluorescent material in the fluorescent material-ITO mixture film 11 to emit visible light 7.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To resolve the nonuniform intensity on a luminescence face occurring as a problem in the past and easily form the large luminescence face in a surface luminescence type light source device used as a light source for illumination. CONSTITUTION:Discharge medium gas is sealed between the first plane plate 1 and the second plane plate held face to face, and multiple electrode pairs are arranged so that their discharge paths are distributed over nearly the whole area of the space pinched by the plane plates. Proper quantities of mercury and argon are sealed as discharge gas in the discharge area, and the fluorescent material excited by the discharge is coated on the inner face of the second plane plate. Voltage is applied to the electrode pairs in sequence according to the preset order, and the discharge is scanned to illuminate the whole plane plate 1. When the number of discharges per second for a set of the electrode pair is set to the commercial frequency or above, a surface luminescence type light source with uniform intensity over the whole luminescence face in a visualsense is obtained.

As to each distance (a) between the one-sided ends of the auxiliary anodes 5 and central axes of the filament coils 6, and each distance (b) between points of connecting the auxiliary anodes 5 to the internal introduction lines 4 and the central axes of the filament coils 6, at least either one of the respective distances is made 4mm or more.
