    Abstract: PURPOSE:The reaction between a ferric trialkoxide and a long-chain fatty acid is carried out in an inter gas atmosphere in an aprotin polar solvent to readily produce the titled compound of high purity in the form of trisoap type, which is used as a water repellent, stabilizer or surface active agent. CONSTITUTION:The reaction of 1mol of a ferric trialkoxide of formula I (R is alkyl) such as ferric trimethoxide with 3-300mol of a long-chain fatty acid of formula II (R' is 10-26C alkyl) such as stearic acid is carried out in an aprotic polar solvent such as anhydrous tetrahydrofuran in an inert gas atmosphere such as argon gas atmosphere at 10-200 deg.C for 0.1-10hr. Then, the reaction product is dried under reduced pressure at room temperature to give a powder of trisoap type compound of formula III such as ferric stearate. The amount of the aprotic polar solvent used in the reaction is 10-10 pts.wt. per 1pt.wt. of the compound of formula I. It is preferred to carry out the reaction, as the alcohol of formula IV, a by-product, is excluded out of the reaction system, e.g., by azeotropic distillation or the like.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the initial selectivity of oxidizing reaction and produce the corresponding arylalkyl hydroperoxides at a high concentration in high selectivity by using a specifically treated transition metallic complex as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION: (A) A transition metallic complex is pretreated with oxygen or a peroxide (preferably alkyl hydroperoxides, etc.). (B) An arylalkyl- hydrocarbon of the formula [P and Q are each H or an alkyl; (n) is 1-3; Ar is an n-valent hydrocarbon] (e.g. cumene) is then oxidized with a gas containing oxygen in the presence of the resultant transition metallic complex as a catalyst and converted into arylalkyl hydroperoxides. Furthermore, the transition metal in the component (A) preferably has an ion of the transition metal, selected from the groups I, II, VI, VII and VIII of the periodic table (e.g. manganese) and coordinated with a ligand (preferably an aliphatic cyclic compound containing nitrogen, especially porphycenes, etc.) and the atom coordinated with the ion is preferably nitrogen, oxygen or sulfur.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an unsaturated ethylenic copolymer, having a high vulcanization rate, excellent in weather, heat and ozone resistance and useful as automotive parts, etc., by copolymerizing ethylene with a specific alpha-olefin and a specified polyene in a specific proportion in the presence of a specified catalyst.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a new polyene compound excellent in light resistance, heat resistance and ozone resistance, and capable of forming unsaturated ethylenic copolymers having large vulcanization rates. CONSTITUTION:The norbornene skeleton-having polyene compound of formula I (n is 1-5; R is 1-8C alkyl; R to R are, 1-8C alkyl; but R and R are not H simultaneously) or formula II (R to R are H, 1-8C alkyl; either of R , R ' is H, 1-8C, and the other is-(CH2)n-CR =CR CR ), e.g. 4-(4'-methyl-3'- pentenyl)-tricyclo[6.2.1.0 ]undecane-4, 9-diene. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a norbornadiene compound of formula III with a polyene compound of formula IV. The compound of formula II is obtained by reacting a 5-vinyl-bicyclo[2.2. 1]pent-2-ene of formula V with the polyene compound of formula IV.

CONSTITUTION:One side or both sides of a transparent thin film as a substrate are successively coated with a polymer (H) having a high refractive index and a polymer (L) having a low refractive index to obtain a highly transparent dustproof film having a polymer L/polymer H/substrate three-layered structure or a polymer L/polymer H/substrate/polymer H/polymer L five-layered structure. A polymer of at least one of compds. represented by formulae I, II (where each of R and R is -CH=CH2, etc., and x is -CH2-, O or S) is used as the polymer H. High light transmittance can be ensured.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To separate the titled compound efficiently, by dehydrating dimerizing hydroquinone in a water-immiscible solvent to give a reaction mixture and adding a blend of water and one or more selected from an alkyl ether, a dialkyl ketone, a carboxylic acid ester, etc., to the reaction mixture. CONSTITUTION:In obtaining 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl ether by dehydrating and dimerizing hydroquinone, the reaction is carried out by using a water-immiscible solvent such as mesitylene, xylene, toluene, cumene, etc. A liquid reaction mixture, obtained afterward, containing unreacted hydroquinone is incorporated with a blend of water and one or more selected from a group consisting of an alkyl ether, a dialkyl ketone, a carboxylic acid ester, >=4C aliphatic alcohol, a nitrile and a halogenated hydrocarbon into two liquid phases of a water phase and an oil phase, which are separated and the titled compound useful as a raw material for synthetic polymers and organic chemicals is obtained from the oil phase.
