Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject polymer in high yield and productivity by polymerizing trioxane and a cyclic ether with a reactor provided with a pair of parallel stirring shafts and having a cross-section consisting of overlapped circles having different centers and containing plate paddle in the reactor and extruding the polymerization product from the lower face of the stirring shaft. CONSTITUTION:A jacket 3 for temperature control is placed on the outer circumference of the cylinder of a reactor having a cross-section consisting of over- lapped circles having different centers. The reactor is provided with a raw material feeding port 4 and a product delivery port 5 at both ends and contains a pair of parallel stirring shafts 1 and plural plate paddles 2 attached to the shafts. The cross-section of the paddle 2 perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the stirring shaft 1 is convex lens form, elliptic form or a pseudopolygonal form inscribed to a virtual circle on each apex. The paddle 2 keeps a narrow clearance between the inner wall of the cylinder and the opposite paddle and rotates in the same direction. Trioxane, a cyclic ether and a catalyst are supplied to a continuous stirring reactor having the above construction and the obtained polymer is delivered from the outlet port 5 opened under one of the stirring shafts in granular form to obtain the objective polymer.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare an oxymethylene polymer compsn. which is excellent in the heat stability and moldability by compounding an oxymethylene polymer with a specific quaternary copolyamide, a hindered phenol antioxidant, and an alkaline earth metal hydroxide. CONSTITUTION:An oxymethylene homo- or copolymer is compounded with a hindered phenol antioxidant (A) having a mol.wt. of 400 or higher, and alkaline earth metal hydroxide (B), and a quaternary copolyamide comprising polyamides 6/66/610/12. The amts. of A, B, and C are each about 0.001-5.0 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. oxymethylene homo- or copolymer.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make it possible to polymerize trioxan without causing torque out of a reactor with an increased amt. of residence and a high polymn. conversion by feeding trioxan, a cyclic ether and a catalyst in a reactor consisting of a continuous stirring and mixing machine with a specified shape. CONSTITUTION:A reactor for polymerizing trioxan consists of a biaxial self- cleaning mixer having a stirring shaft 1, a plurality of platelike paddles 2 and a jacket 3 for temp. control. Trioxan, a cyclic ether and a catalyst are fed from a feed part 4 to polymerize them and a polyacetal copolymer is taken out as a powder and granular form through a discharge port 5. In this machine, paddles with a thickness of 0.2-1.0 time as large as the major diameter of the paddle are used by combining them in the range of 20-100% of all the paddles except a screw. Trioxan can be polymerized without causing torque out of the reactor with an increased amt. of residence and a high polymn. conversion.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a high-MW oxymethylene copolymer continuously in high yields within a short time by combining a specified polymerization catalyst with a cyclic ether to activate the catalyst, feeding this mixture, bringing it into contact with trioxan and discharging the formed polymer. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst fed from a catalyst feed pipe 3 is combined with a cyclic ether before it enters a feed opening 4 and mixed to activate the catalyst in the pipe. A stream of the mixture of the activated catalyst with the cyclic ether and trioxan fed from a trioxan feed pipe 1 enter a polymerizer 5. The polymerizer 5 is a twin-screw self-cleaning mixer having an agitator shaft 9, a plurality of plate paddles 7 and a temperature control jacket 8. A paddle 7 has a shape of a covex lens. The lower part of the feed opening of the polymerizer 5 is constituted of a common screw 10. Among the catalysts to be used, a coordination compound of boron trifluoride is desirable, and boron trifluoride/diethyl ether complex, boron trifluoride/di(n-butyl) ether complex or boron trifluoride/phenol complex is particularly desirable.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To efficiently prepare a particular polyamide resin having high rigidity and high heat distortion temp. by producing a polyamide resin having a hexamethyleneterephthalamide structure in such a manner that, after the production of a prim. condensate, the prim. condensate is regulated to have a water content falling within a particular range and the degree of polymn. is then increased. CONSTITUTION:This polyamide resin has a copolymer structure comprising repeating units of formula I. It is prepared by conducting the step of synthesizing a primary condensate at 150 to 350 deg.C to give a primary condensate having a relative viscosity of 1.04 to 2.5 as measured at 25 deg.C in the 1% sulfuric acid soln. thereof, regulating the water content of the prim. condensate to 0.03 to 10wt.%, and the increasing the degree of polymn. The m.p. of the polyamide resin is pref. 230 to 240 deg.C. The polyamide resin may have at least one repeating unit selected from the formulae II to IV. The wt. ratio of repeating units is pref. formula I: formula II=(45:55) to (80:20), formula I: formula III=(20:80) to (80:20), or formula I: formula IV=(40:60) to (90:10).

It is prepared by conducting the step of synthesizing a primary condensate at 150 to 350 deg.C to give a primary condensate having a relative viscosity of 1.04 to 2.5 as measured at 25 deg.C in the 1% sulfuric acid soln. thereof and further increasing the degree of polymn. of the condensate. In the step of synthesizing the primary condensate, starting materials for providing the repeating units of the formula are fed both when the reaction temperature is below 150 deg.C and when the reaction temperature is 150 deg.C or above. The starting materials for providing the repeating units of the formula are preferably terephthalic acid and hexamethylenediamine or a salt of both the above compds. The m.p. of the polyamide resin is pref. 230 to 340 deg.C.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a polyamide resin with a high heat distortion temp. by producing a precondensate with a specified relative viscosity, continuously crushing it during its derivery from a polymerizer, and increasing the degree of polymn. of the crushed precondensate. CONSTITUTION:A dicarboxylic acid component (e.g. terephthalic or adipic acid) and an aq. soln. of a diamine (e.g. hexamethylenediamine) are fed into a pressurized polymerizer and reacted at 150-350 deg.C under a pressure of 2-70kg/cm G to give a precondensate with a relative viscosity (in sulfuric acid, in a concn. of 1%, at 25 deg.C) of 1.04-2.5. The precondensate is crushed to a granule size of 0. 2-10mm and caused to dwell in a melting machine at a temp. 10-70 deg.C higher than the m.p. of the precondensate but not higher than 370 deg.C for 20min or longer to increase the degree of polymn., giving a polyamide resin having a relative viscosity of 1.8-5.0 and comprising structural units of formulas I, II, III, and IV in wt. ratios of (I/II), (I/III), and (I/IV) of (55/45)(80/20), (20/80)-(80/20), and (55/45)-(90/10), respectively.

CONSTITUTION:A polyoxymethylene compsn. is prepd. by compounding a polyoxymethylen homo- or copolymer; a hindered amine (A) of formula I [wherein R is H or a group of formula II (wherein R' is H or CH3); and (x), (y), and (z) are each 0-10 and may be the same or different] pref. having a mol.wt. of 1000 or higher; a hindered phenol antioxidant (B) having a mol.wt. of 400 or higher; and an alkaline earth metal hydorxide (C). The pref. amts. of a, B, and C are each 0.01-3 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. polyoxymethylen homo- or copolymer.

CONSTITUTION:(A) A crystalline aromatic polyester, such as polyethylene terephthalate, and (B) a lactone compound, such as epsilon-caprolactone, are fed to a continuous stirring mixer, having a screw with many interrupted ridges coaxial with a barrel therein and operating so as to mesh the interrupted parts with teeth protruding on the inner surface of the barrel and reacted preferably at 210 to 280 deg.C to afford the objective polymer.
