    Abstract: PURPOSE:To get rid of the occurrence of cracks as well as to make any deformation in an opening form so as not to be entailed by making a process forming a cutoff part at an end edge of a continuous wall so as to heat and excise it by a burner after an extrusion molding process by a pair of metal molds and that before cutting a bulb edge. CONSTITUTION:A glass bulb 6 being molded by a pair of metal molds 3 and 3 is provided with an almost U-shaped discharge passage 7, and installs a continuous wall 8 between walls of adjacent discharge passages. When a flame of a burner 12 is directed toward the continuous wall 8, the continuous wall 8 at this position is heated and softened and receives injection gas pressure of the burner, thus a cutoff part 13 is formed. Annealing takes place, and furthermore afterward, a large diametral opening end 9 as traces of a large diametral glass tube 1 by cutting the glass bulb 6 is cut down, whereby openings 11 and 11 turning to both ends of the discharge passage 7 are formed. The cutoff part 13 is being formed in the continuous wall 8 situated between these openings 11 and 11, therefore electrode mounts 14 and 14 can be sealed to these openings 11 and 11 as they are left intact.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the luminous efficiency of a multipole type low pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp by forming a narrow gap between discharge paths that are adjacent to each other in the circumferential direction as compared with the gap between the inside surface of an outer tube and the outside surface of an inner surface in the vicinity of each discharge path. CONSTITUTION:An inner tube 3 is formed in a waveform shape along the circumferential direction. The gap between the inside surface of an outer tube 1 and the outside surface of the inner tube 3 is formed widely in the vicinity of a discharge path in which each anode 8... is positioned and contracted between discharge paths that are adjacent to each other in the circumferential direction. A positive glow pillar is generated in an inverted U-shaped discharge path that is the shortest distance to connect a cathode 7 to each anode 8. In other words, the positive glow pillar is generated in a location 15 with a large gap positioned on a line O to A by which the cathode 7 is connected to each anode 8. Since a location 16 with a contacted gap is formed in the circumferential direction of the location 15 in which this positive glow pillar is generated, the positive glow pillar is prevented from being diffused in the circumferential direction. As a result, the same effect can be obtained as in a case where the tube diameter of discharge space is narrowed and the potential gradient can be increased. Also, the performance in which the phosphor around the positive glow pillar is excited can be improved and the luminous efficiency can be increased.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent any luminance nonuniformity as well as reductions in the optical output of the entire emitter tube by making an amount of an alkali metal corresponding to the reduction in the pressure of alkali metal vapor existing around the positive electrode to be discharged from an alkali metal alloy installed near the positive electrode when said pressure starts to decrease. CONSTITUTION:When the lamp of this invention is lit by direct current for example, sodium charged in an emitter tube 3 makes positive ions which are then gradually drawn toward a negative electrode 6. As the result, the amount of sodium existing around a positive electrode 5 notably decreases and the pressure of sodium vapor existing around the positive electrode 5 starts to decrease. When the pressure of sodium vapor existing around the positive electrode 5 starts to decrease, an amount of sodium corresponding to the decrease is discharged from a sodium alloy 7 installed near the positive electrode 5 and therefore sodium is supplied near the positive electrode 5. Owing to the above structure, apparently sodium vapor is almost homogeneously distributed in the emitter tube 3 thereby preventing any reductions or nonuniformity of luminance. Consequently, light is homogeneously emitted from the entire emitter tube 3.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent lighting circuit components stored in a cover from being damaged by heat and extend their lives by forming a metallic thin film on the outer surface of the cover of a fluorescent lamp device. CONSTITUTION:A metallic thin film 25 with excellent heat conductivity such as aluminum is formed on the outer surface of the cover 1 of a fluorescent lamp device. The heat of the cover 1 is discharged to the outside by the heat radiating action of the metallic thin film 25. In this case, a heat radiating paint film 26 such as a white paint is formed on the outer surface of the metallic thin film 25, this film 26 dissolves the luster of the thin film 25 and further improves the heat radiation property of the thin film 25. The heat of the cover 1 is satisfactorily discharged to the outside. The temperature rise in the cover 1 is thereby suppressed, the thermal adverse effect on lighting circuit components 12 and 13 is mitigated, the lighting circuit components are prevented from being damaged by heat, and their lives can be extended.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve a lumen maintenance factor without any decrease of optical output by setting a load on the tube-wall of a fluorescent lamp to more than 1.0 W/cm and regulating a cation atomic ratio of lanthanum to cerium in a phosphor material in a range from 2 to 6. CONSTITUTION:A fluorescent lamp 9 is installed in the translucent globe 3 of a fluorescent lamp, the lamp 9 is formed approximately in a character b- shape and a phosphor material membrane 11 is formed on the whole inner surface of an emitting valve 10 in the lamp 9. Mercury is sealed in the lamp 9 in the form of amalgam, and lanthanum phosphate phosphor material activated by cerium and terbium (La, Ce, Tb)2O3.0.2SiO2.0.9P2O5 is employed in the phosphor material 11. A cation atomic ratio of lanthanum to cerium (La/Ce) is regulated in range from more than 1 to less than 6. Therefore, theris no decrease in optical output where a tube wall loading temperature is to be high with more than 1.0 W/cm and its lumen maintenance factor can be improved.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve mechanical strength and control mutual positional relation with high accuracy while realizing further miniaturization by making opposing faces of adjoining glass tubes into flat surfaces and causing the flat surfaces to make surface contact between them. CONSTITUTION:Flat surfaces 5(a) and 5(b) are formed on mutually opposing faces of U-shaped glass tubes 2(a) and 2(b). And, respective flat faces 5(a) of the U-shaped glass tubes 2(a) and 2(b) are brought into mutual surface contact to be junctioned together by means of a connecting member 3. With such a structure, the adjoining glass tubes 2(a) and 2(b) are brought into mutual contact between the flat surfaces 5(a) and 5(b) with no stress concentrated on any specific point even if external force toward an arrow direction is applied, thereon, thus improving its mechanical strength. The contact surface resulting from the mutual surface contact can be utilized to control their mutual positional relation with high accuracy. In addition, a gap between the glass tubes 2(a) and 2(b) is eliminated to enable minituarization thereof.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To form an opening for bulb connection without causing bulb cracks or breakages by attaching phsophor coating adherence preventing member in the vicinity of an open end of a glass bulb and by removing said preventing member after application of a phosphor screen to the bulb inner surface. CONSTITUTION:A phophor coating adherence preventing film 14 made of high molecular organic compound like for example resist is applied to a position which forms an opening in the vicinity of an open end of a glass bulb 1 such as U-shaped one with its other end closed. Then, with application of phosphor suspension to form a phosphor coating 15 and heating of said coating 15 at about 400 deg.C to bake and evaporate solvent of said coating 15 like residual cellulose nitrate, a coating 14 also evaporates and the coating 15 exfoliates also forming a window part 16 with no coating 15 adherence. If, therefore, the window part 16 is blown up by heating and melting, an opening 3 for plural bulb connections is formed on the bulb 1 without causing bulb cracks or breakages since there exists no coating 15. As a result, a fluorescent bulb body is formed with airtight connection through the opening 3.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of any crack and the distortion in an opening form, by forming a thin wall part, surrounding a cutoff scheduled part, in an end edge of a continuous wall, while cleaving this thin wall part by adding external force after a bulb is cooled and solidified, and forming a cutoff part there. CONSTITUTION:When the thick diametral glass tube 1 heated and softened by plural burners 2 in advance is pressed by a pair of metal molds 3 and 3, an almost U-shaped discharge path 7 and a glass bulb 6 having a continuous wall 8 between walls of adjacent discharge paths and forming the cutoff scheduled part 13' surrounded by a thin wall part 22 in an end of this continuous wall 8 are molded by these metal molds. The cutoff scheduled part 13' is molded by projections 20 and 20 formed by these metal molds 3 and 3 and escape parts surrouned by these projections 20 and 20. This cutoff schedule part 13' is cut by external force added.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To shorten time required for exhaust process by forming an exhaust pipe for exhausting the insides of the bulbs of a metal material. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust pipe 19 consisting of a metal material such as copper, brass and niob is longitudinally and tightly connected to a small hole bored about in the central part of the bottom of a coupling member 12 while exhausting gas inside the coupling member 12 through said exhaust pipe 16. In the exhaust process of a fluorescent lamp, firstly a ventilator is connected to an outer end of the exhaust pipe 19 to exhaust the inside of the coupling member 12 as well as the insides of the glass bulbs 10 and 11 tightly connected to said coupling member 12. Next, the tip part of the metal-made exhaust pipe 19 is squeezed by pressing it between through a pliers-shaped jig 17 for chipping to tightly block it.
