Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved technique for obtaining the delay characteristics of semiconductor layers in a multilayered stack by achieving desirable changes in optical thickness and composition. SOLUTION: A saturable absorber mirror which is used at the time of locking the mode of a laser uses the multilayered stack of compound semiconductor layers which is arranged under a multilayered stack of dielectric layers forming a smooth edge filter and alternately contains narrow and broad energy band gaps. The narrow energy band gap layers are alloy-modulated in a digital mode and the energy band gaps of the layers are changed so that the mirror offers a desired group-delay dispersing characteristic.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tracing system for a jumper cable containing both optical fibers and electrical wires. SOLUTION: Conventional problems are solved by a system composed of optical receptacles, which are mounted on a pair of patch panels and which contain metallic conductors, and jumper cables which contain optical fibers and electrical wires terminating in a plug connector at each end and which are connected to the optical receptacles by the plug connectors. Each patch panel includes manually operated switches and electrical circuitry containing a light emitting device, with each circuit electrically connected to a metallic conductor inside the optical receptacle on each patch panel. If the switch on one patch panel is in the active state, a voltage in the metallic conductor is applied, making the light emitting device give off light in the corresponding receptacle on the other patch panel. If the switch is in the normal state, the light emitting device gives off no light.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for metallic-testing a subscriber line that provides both voice and digital subscriber line services. SOLUTION: The voice service is provided by a voice switch and the DSL service is provided by a digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM). Each of them includes a metallic line test unit. The voice line in the voice switch has a connection to a first metallic line test bus connected to the voice switch metallic line test unit via a first relay set. A second set of relays control the connection of the metallic line test bus to the subscriber line. A signal is sent from either metallic test unit to cause the relays to change to provide a clear path for metallic testing.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for restricting call terminations, when a mobile unit is roaming. SOLUTION: This invention provides the method and apparatus for restricting call terminations to a roaming mobile unit. A serving MSC(mobile switching center) that is an MSC to provide call processing to a mobile unit which is not a home MSC among mobile units, sends a registration notification request to the home location register(HLR). The HLR retrieves the termination access code parameter from itself and sends the parameter to the serving MSC. The termination access code parameter includes a value that indicates if the mobile unit is allowed to accept roamer port calls. A VLR(visitor location register) associated with the serving MSC stores the parameter. When a call request comes in the serving MSC and requests a roamer port call with the mobile unit, the serving MSC checks the value of the termination restriction code to determine if the roamer port call should terminate, or complete, the call.
