    Abstract: The color and impact strength of nitrile polymers, prepared by polymn. of an olefinically unsatd. nitrile with a monovinyl monomer in the presence of a rubber, were improved by heating the polymer to a plastic state in the absence of O and in presence of an inert gas. Thus, an acrylonitrile-rubber-vinyl compd. latex, coagulated and formed into strands was pelletized by screw extrusion in the presence of CO2. The product had Izod impact strength 2.57kg/cm2, yellowness index 28.

    Abstract: The title polymers are prepd. from maleic anhydride(I), a cyclic olefin, styrene(II), and a preformed rubber. Thus, a mixt. of I 25, II 40, Bz2O2 0.4 and MeCOEt 75 parts was added over 6 hr at 75oC to mixt. of SBR 15, II 10, β-pinene 25, and MeCOEt 25 parts and heated an addnl. hr at 70oC, giving a polymer with heat-distortion temp. 166oC, fluexural strength 8.41x103 psi, notched lzod impact strength 1.76 ftlb/in. notch, and tensile strength 5.06x103 psi.

    Abstract: Acrylates and methacrylates were obtained by oxidative esterufucation of propylene or isobutylene (I) in the presence of O and C2H4 or an alc., in a single fluidized bed reactor contg. oxidn. catalysts at 200-600≦̸C. A reactor was charged with 80% 50:50 mixt. of Ni2.5Co4.5Fe3BiPO.5/0.5Mo12Ox and SiO2 and 20% 62:38 mixt. of V3W1.2Mo12Ox and SiO2.Air-I-MeOH(10:1:2) was fed to the reactor at 355oC and 1 atm. and after contact time 5 s the product yield was methyl methacrylate 30.0, I 53.0, acrolein 1.0, and methacrolein 2.0 mol. percent with a trace of methacrylic acid.
