    Abstract: PURPOSE: An apparatus for restricting idling of a vehicle and a method thereof are provided to perform accurate control of idling, by using navigation information and video information in the vehicle. CONSTITUTION: According to a method for restricting idling of a vehicle, current position and travelling lane of the vehicle are sensed. It is judged whether distance between the vehicle and a front traffic signal is closer than a predetermined distance. If the distance is closer than the predetermined distance, it is judged whether a traffic lane state of the front traffic signal is a stop signal or a preceding vehicle is in the stopping state. If the distance is not closer than the predetermined distance, the current position and travelling lane of the vehicle are sensed again. If the traffic lane signal state of the front traffic signal is a stop signal or the preceding vehicle is in the stop state, the engine of the vehicle stops. Otherwise, the current position and travelling lane of the vehicle are sensed again. It is judged whether the traffic lane signal state of the front traffic signal is a go signal or the preceding vehicle is in a travelling state.
