Abstract:
A solid catalyst component comprising Ti, Mg, halogen and a couple of monofunctional electron donor compounds MD1 and MD2 selected from esters and ethers, said donors being present in amounts such that the molar ratio MD1/MD2 ranges from 20 to 800. The so obtained catalyst component when converted into a catalyst is able to produce ethylene polymers with good morphological properties even under drastic polymerization conditions.

Catalyst component for the polymerization of olefins comprising Mg, Ti, halogen and an electron donor is obtained by a batch process comprising: (A) A first step comprising reacting an adduct of formula MgCl 2 (ROH) n , where R is a C1-C10 alkyl group, and n is from 0.5 to 6, in a liquid medium comprising a titanium compound having at least a Ti-Cl bond at a temperature ranging from 0°C to 80°C and then removing the liquid medium; (B) A subsequent step comprising reacting the solid product obtained in (A) in a liquid medium comprising an electron donor ED selected from ethers, esters, ketones, silanes, amines, nitriles and amides, and a titanium compound having at least a Ti-Cl bond at a temperature higher than 80°C and then, after removing the liquid medium; (C) A subsequent step comprising reacting the solid product coming from (B) with a liquid medium comprising a titanium compound having at least a Ti-Cl bond at a temperature higher than 80°C.

The present invention relates to a slurry process for preparing an ethylene polymer having a melt flow ratio F/P, which is the ratio among the melt index value measured according to ASTM 1238 condition "F" and the melt index value measured according to ASTM 1238 condition "P" of equal to or lower than 27, carried out in two or more stages of polymerization at temperatures in the range from 60 to 120°C, in which at least two of the said two or more polymerization stages are carried out under different amounts of molecular weight regulator, said process being carried out in the presence of (A) a solid catalyst component comprising Ti, Mg, halogen, having a porosity (PF), measured by the mercury method and due to pores with radius equal to, or lower than, 1µm, of at least 0.3 cm 3 /g and a surface area determined by BET method, of lower than 100 m 2 /g, and being further characterized by the fact that more than 50% of the titanium atoms are in a valence state lower than 4 and (B) of an organoaluminum compound.

A process for the preparation of propylene polymer compositions comprising from 50 to 90% by weight of a propylene polymer fraction insoluble in xylene at 25°C, and from 10 to 50% by weight of an ethylene copolymer fraction soluble in xylene at 25°C, said process being carried out in the presence of a specific catalyst system, is also characterized by the following step: (i) contacting the catalyst components (a), (b) and optionally (c) for a period of time ranging from 0.1 to 120 minutes, at a temperature ranging from 0 to 90°C; (ii) polymerizing propylene in the optional presence of ethylene and/or C 4 -C 10 alpha olefins producing a propylene (co)polymer being for at least 85% by weight of insoluble in xylene at 25°C and (iii) in a successive step, carried out in gas-phase, in the presence of the product coming from (ii), polymerizing mixtures of ethylene with α-olefins CH 2 =CHR in which R is a hydrocarbon radical having 1-10 carbon atoms, to produce an ethylene copolymer. An increased reactivity in the last step is observed.

A propylene polymer composition comprising (percent by weight): A) 74%-84% of a propylene homopolymer having a Polydispersity Index (P.I.) value of from 4.6 to 10, a fraction insoluble in xylene at 25 °C, higher than 90 %, and a MFR L (Melt Flow Rate according to ISO 1133, condition L, i.e. 230°C and 2.16 kg load) from 110 to 200 g/10 min; B) 16%-26%, of a copolymer of propylene with from 39% to 48%, of ethylene derived units; the composition having an intrinsic viscosity of the fraction soluble in xylene at 25 °C comprised between 2.7 and 4.0 dl/g; and a MFR L (Melt Flow Rate according to ISO 1133, condition L, i.e. 230°C and 2.16 kg load) from 30 to 80 g/10 min.
