    Abstract: A process is disclosed for producing paper with a dry-strength and wet-strength finish by adding to the paper pulp combinations of hydrophilically modified polyisocyanates and polymers containing vinyl amine units, then by dewatering the paper pulp to form sheets of paper, or by treating the paper surface with hydrophilically modified polyisocyanates and polymers containing vinyl amine units. Also disclosed is the use of said combinations of polyisocyanates and polymers as dry-strengthening and wet-strengthening agents of hygienic and kraft papers.

    Abstract: Condensation products of polyalkylene polyamines produced by a) the partial amidation of polyalkylene polyamines and b) the condensation of the partially amidated polyalkylene polyamine with at least difunctional cross-linking agents to form cross-linked polyalkylene polyamines having a viscosity of at least 100 mPas in 20% aqueous solution at 20 DEG C, process for producing the condensation products of polyalkylene polyamines by partial amidation of polyalkylene amines with carboxylic acids, carboxylic acid esters, carboxylic acid anhydrides or carboxylic acid halogenides and cross-linking the partially amidated polyalkylene polyamines with at least difunctional cross-linking agents, wherein to one part by weight of the partially amidated polyalkylene polyamines are added 0.001 to 10 parts by weight of a cross-linking agent, and the use of the condensation products thus obtained as dehydrating, flocculating and retention agents and as fixing agents in papermaking.
