Abstract: The invention relates to a substance which is suitable for use as a catalyst, containing: (a) iron or a compound based on iron of mixtures thereof, (b) 0,001 to 0,3 wt. % in relation to (a) of a promoter based on 2, 3, 4, or 5 elements from the following group: aluminium, silicon, zirconium, titanium and vanadium; (c) 0 to 0.3 wt. % in relation to (a) of a compound based on an alkaline and/or alkaline earth metal, and (d) 0.001 to 1 wt. % in relation to (a) of manganese. Abstract: Aliphatic alpha,omega-aminonitriles are prepared by partial hydrogenation of aliphatic alpha,omega-dinitriles at elevated temperatures and superatmospheric pressure in the presence of a solvent and of a catalyst by a process which comprises using a catalyst which (a) contains a compound based on a metal selected from the group consisting of nickel, cobalt, iron, ruthenium and rhodium and (b) contains from 0.01 to 25% by weight, based on (a), of a promoter based on a metal selected from the group consisting of palladium, platinum, iridium, osmium, copper, silver, gold, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, manganese, rhenium, zinc, cadmium, lead, aluminum, tin, phosphorus, arsenic, antimony, bismuth and rare earth metals and (c) from 0 to 5% by weight, based on (a), of a compound based on an alkali metal or on an alkaline earth metal. with the proviso that the component (a) is not based on iron or iron and one of the metals selected from the group consisting of cobalt, ruthenium and rhodium when (b) is a promoter based on a metal selected from the group consisting of titanium, manganese, chromium and molybdenum, and with the further proviso that, when a compound based on only ruthenium or rhodium or ruthenium and rhodium or nickel and rhodium is selected as component (a), the promoter (b) may be dispensed with.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the catalytic hydrogenation of adipodinitrile to hexamethylene diamine at a high temperature and at high pressure in the presence of catalysts based on elementary iron as the catalytic component, and ammonia as a solvent. The method is characterised i n that a) adipodinitrile is hydrogenated at temperatures of 70 to 220 ~C and a t pressures of 100 to 400 bar in the presence of catalysts based on elementary iron as the catalytic component, and ammonia as a solvent to produce a mixtu re containing adipodinitrile, 6-aminocapronitrile, hexamethylene diamine and hi gh boilers, until the sum of the 6-aminocapronitrile and adipodinitrile concentration is 1 to 50 wt. % in relation to the ammonia-free hydrogenation mixture; b) ammonia is separated out of the hydrogenation discharge; c) hexamethylene diamine is separated out of the remaining mixture; d) 6- aminocapronitrile and adipodinitrile are separated from the high boilers together or separately and e) 6-aminocapronitrile, adipodinitrile or their mixtures are returned to step a).

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for simultaneous preparation of 6-aminocapronitrile and hexamethylene diamine from adipodinitrile, comprising the following steps: a) hydrogenating adipodinitrile in the presence of a catalyst containing an element of the eight subgroup as catalytically active component to obtain a mixture containing 6-aminocapronitrile, hexamethylene diamine, adipodinitrile and high boilers; b) separating by distillation hexamethylene diamine from the mixture containing 6-aminocapronitrile, hexamethylene diamine, adipodinitrile and high boilers and c1) separating by distillation 6-aminocapronitrile and subsequently d1) separating by distillation adipodinitrile or c2) simultaneously separating by distillation 6-aminocapronitrile and adipodinitrile into separate fractions. The method is characterized in that the temperature of the bottom in steps d1) or c2) is below 185 DEG C.
