Abstract: Preparation of thermally stable, soft polyurethane foam, comprises reacting optionally modified organic polyisocyanates (A) with high molecular weight compounds (B) containing at least two reactive hydrogen atoms and optional low molecular weight chain extenders and/or cross-linking agents (C), in the presence of propellants (D), catalysts (E), flame retardants (F) and optional auxiliary agents and/or additives (G).(B) are mixed condensation reaction products, comprising a mixture of at least two dicarboxylic acid/polyfunctional alcohol pre-condensation reaction products, or at least one dicarboxylic acid/polyfunctional alcohol pre-condensation reaction product and a reagent mixture based upon this product for a condensation polymer, which are subjected to a post-condensation reaction.

Abstract: Highly functional aromatic polyisocyanates are prepared by reacting aromatic polyisocyanates, if required as a mixture with further mono- and/or polyisocyanates, with addition of catalytic acidic substances and water, by a process wherein the aromatic polyisocyanates used comprise at least one tolylene diisocyanate and the catalytic acidic substance used is at least one alkyl and/or aralkyl phosphate, and the process is carried out in such a way that the water is added with a temperature/time gradient increase from 5 to 60°/hour and until an isocyanate modification of the starting NCO terminal groups from 1 to 80% is established. The highly functional aromatic polyisocyanates prepared by this process are used for the preparation of polyurethane foams, in particular flexible polyurethane foams.

Abstract: The polyol component in a low-penetration polyurethane (PUR) reaction mixture used for foam-backing sheet materials comprises a polyol containing dispersed ureas obtained by reacting NH-functional compounds with isocyanates. A process for foam-backing sheet materials with PUR showing a reduced depth of penetration comprises coating porous sheet material with a reaction mixture containing (a) polyisocyanate(s), (b) compound(s) with at least 2 reactive hydrogen atoms, optionally (c) blowing agents, (d) catalysts and (e) other additives etc. and allowing the mixture to react on the substrate. Component (b) is a polyol containing dispersed ureas obtained by reacting NH-functional compounds with isocyanates. An Independent claim is also included for a PUR foam-backing system with a reduced depth of penetration, containing components (a)-(e) as above.
